I have the opportunity to buy a 3" 686+-5. No box or papers, but gun looks to be in excellent condition. What do you guys think this particular gun is worth? This is the first 3" gun I have seen in a long time, and I have been looking for a while.

Thank you.

The dash5 is MIM with the flat hammer. About a $450-$500 gun without the box and docs if it's in really nice shape. I would pay a little more for a dash 4 or earlier. But, stuff is usually a little cheaper around here than in other parts of the country, especially Kalifornia or other areas with overly restrictive laws.

Thanks you guys. I won't be buying that gun as the price is getting too high, but I am sure there is a 3" 686 out there in my price range. Just got to go find it now.

Hope you get it, some don't like it "BUT" the -5 is the one that I love the most. First Mountain "L" frame and right down the line. Trigger work is easy with many more rewards to go with it. The three inch is far and few between, grab and grin !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-4 is my preference though I have a no dash 6" 586 and -1 4" 681. I have been looking at 3" models, but I am going to pass on this one. I would have gone with the -5, but the price is ridiculous. Guy won't come down in price because it is a rare piece. It isn't common, but it isn't as though only a few were made. I have been looking for over a year now, but I can wait longer for a reasonably priced 3" model.

686

There really are not too many 3" prelock 686 guns out there. That is why the owner is asking a "high" price. I have a 686-5 with the 2.5 inch barrel and I have to say it is a very solid and well built gun. I am glad I bought it, but I am not sure I would pay hundreds more for a half inch of barrel. PD

I have now seen a few 3" 686-5s. Some are with wood grips, and others with rubber grips. What type of grips did the 3" 686-5 come with from the factory?

A think a 3" 686-4 "SIX Shooter" would be my Holy Grail Gun.

When I found my 3" 66-2 I was looking at 3" 686's. No problem finding a new one. The only Issue I have is they are ALL "Seven Shooters". Finding a 3" 686 "Six Shooter" is a chore.
