Value of a smith 66

Hi,

I found a Model 66 4 inch that was up for sale and was curious what the value was to see if I wanted to try to make an offer. here is the author's description
"I have for trade/sale a s&w model 66 38spl/357 mag revolver. It is a 4in barrel stainless handgun. It is a mod 66 with no dashes, not mod 66-1 or mod 66-2. It has S.P.D. markings on the lower frame. Inside the revolver arm there is the mod 66, C17, 93853 markings"

From the pictures it looks like it has quite a bit of holster wear like you would think but it probably wouldn't be a bad shooter so thanks for the help!

i like to check out revolvers in person unless i know the person i am dealing with. i check for end shake, timming & lock up, and hammer push off. as far as the finish goes it is an easy fix with some 3 m pads. i sold 2 last year for $450.00 each.

Trevor. Probably the most important factor considering that this is at least a 34 year old gun would be the mechanical condition.
Many things could have happened to it in its lifetime.

Top strap flame cutting, timing, take up, end shake, bent ejector rod.
All these are telltale signs of use/ or abuse.

That said, $250. to $350. for a good used police marked 66 would be fair.

Sellers may ask a premium for these and some buyers may be willing to
pay for them. But unless you have some personal interest in the
issuing P.D. it is just another old used model 66 shooter.

I sold one last week for $450 and I spent a lot of cleaning time on it.

Saw a -1 today at Cabela's, Pachmayr's and dirty, dinged and scratched for $650 - way over priced. The last two shooters I've picked up were $410 (no dash) - $475 and good guns.

Your in CA, sorry about that, I'm sure that will inflate the cost.

Thanks for the help everyone I went ahead and offered him 425 including some of his ammo assuming the gun checks up when I see it in person and I'm just waiting to see his response. I will let you guys know.
