Value question on M19-4

Hello all,

I was wondering If I could get some of you to chime in with what a blued M19-4 shooter in very good mechanical condition and excellent finish is going for in your neck of the woods.

I'm the second owner and I say shooter because the original owner had the hammer and trigger jeweled, so I imagine this reduces its interest for collectors.

It has the 2 3/8th" pinned barrel and recessed cylinder, with wide combat trigger and hammer.

I don't want to sell it, just curious about the value of similar revolvers in like condition.

Without pictures or a more detailed description regarding if you have the box, original grips, etc. I would guess $500+.

I can post pictures later. It's currently wearing rubber Uncle Mikes which, strangely enough, I was told were the only grips ever on the gun. Does anyone know if some actually came like that from the factory?

In excellent condition, no box no papers and from a private seller $500-$600 here in Florida. 2.5' barrel.

Local Gun Shop...$650 - $675

I know it needs a good cleaning, but I just got it and haven't had a chance to do so. This is soon to be corrected

I doubt the target hammer and trigger are original unless is is thus marked on the box if it even has the box. I didn't see it's a 2.5" at the first post but those always go for bonus money. Check the flame cutting in the top strap and pull the rubber grips to make sure they aren't hiding rust. I see the grip screw is rusting and let's hope that's the worst.

Why this? It was my understanding the wide trigger and hammer, while not standard, were available on the -4. Unfortunately, it did not come with the original box.

I've already taken the grips off and the screw is the only rust on that area. That and the light finish pitting on the right side.

My two cents is that I've never seen a snubbie of any model with a factory-installed target trigger and hammer. Check your SCoSW - the list of Model 19 product codes would indicate if any were ever made like that.

Snubbies are mainly considered combat guns carried concealed so target parts are not expected on those guns and probably wouldn't be desired by those buying them for that purpose.

Every single M19 2.5" I've seen had the skinny trigger and standard hammer and came with magnas. As usual there are always special orders and limited runs though.

The gun pictured probably was intended originally to be part of a special order. The S&W rollmark is on the left side of the frame, not on the sideplate. I have a 4" 19-4 with all target options with the rollmark similarly situated. As I understand it, this is an indication that the sideplate was intended to get some sort of organizational rollmark, as, for example, with the Texas Rangers commemorative guns.
