Van's Cold Blue: Revolver Before & After

Might not be able to clearly see the difference, but I applied some Van's to a few really worn areas of my DS.

It's been a carry piece, so I'm not really concerned about whether it worked right or not. Talked to COLT again today, but I'm still undecided about spending over $300 to have it re-blued.

Here's a before pic. Notice the wear on the edge of the barrel and strange spots on the cylinder:

I give the product high marks, but as you all know, ain't nuthin' "cold" gonna replace old school Colt bluing.

Looks good! Some of the best results I've seen with cold blue.

I've used the Blue Wonder 3 part hot blue kit on several guns and always had improvement.
Sometimes a whole lot of improvement. But it still won't look as good as a fresh factory reblue, but if the gun looked that good then I would have a "safe queen" and I only want guns I can shoot!

Yep, I'll be shooting this for for sure!

It very, very easy.

I degreased it thoroughly, warmed it with a hair dryer, applied the cold blue with a soft rag.

Waited 3 minutes, wiped with a damp rag, then polished with fine steel wool.

That's all there is to it.

Does it stink? ALL cold blue I've tried really smells bad.

That stuff looks way better than any cold blue jobs I have ever seen before. Might be a cheap, easy way to breath some life into a well worn truck gun.
