Oopst. I did a search for veteran, vet, and disarmed and came up empty. Thanks!

I would not carry a rifle in Texas openly, I think it is illegal there, I would not do it here even if it is not illegal to carry openly, but I reserve the right to do so if there is riots!

Both man have strong ego, but the cop is a terrible one!

Whatever rifleman did, resisting was not even close. I think the proper charge was Assault on Officer Ego. Oh yeah that ain't a charges either.

WTH is "rudely" carrying?

If open carry is legal, then that cop should be fired immediately!

Now don't get all carried away. I got the distinct impression that this guy was parading around with the intent to provoke a confrontation. He got what he was looking for. The key for me to think that was that he was getting agitated beyond what I'd consider reasonable... "playing it up" for the camera.
IMHO an "in your face" strategy with the local police is not a particularly smart way to exercise one's rights.

I understand there have been several incidents in the Fort Hood area (near Temple, if you weren't aware) between soldiers on their own time with personal firearms and the local cops. There's some "history" there, and I'm not knowledgeable on all of it to comment further on that part. Anyone?

Watched the video and its a primer for how not to interact with a police officer. I got the feeling that he was trying to provoke an incident. Looking for attention and he got it. Anyway the police are going to secure any weapon if one is being carried anytime they interact with a person.

I watched the video also and had the same feeling that this guy was extremely rude. I believe he was trying to provoke a confrontation.

If you check him out...I dont think he was trying to be rude at all. He does respect the police. He has a right to open carry in texas and was taking his son on a hike. A person complained that he had a rifle (perfectly legal) and he had threatened no one. Check out CJ Grisham on face book to see his side of it. I think if I had been the police, I would have told the complainer, that he was well with in his rights to carry a rifle with him, its not against the law. The Officer just grabbed his rifle, he did not ask for it....so attitude has a lot to do what what happens when you approach a person. There are always two sides to a story.

Come on people I hope have we all have above average intelligence. What was done to this veteran was wrong anyway you try to sugarcoat it!!!

Buffalo and Castle, No. He's in the wrong.
First, doesn't matter how he tries to portray himself later on Facebook or wherever. His behavior at the time of the incident is not in dispute- it's on video, so anyone can see what he did.
Second, despite many folks' attitude toward the cops, like it or not, they do have the upper hand in situations like this. Refusing to cooperate with the cops for the sake of being confrontational is just stupid. Believe me, "Mr. You-can't-do-that" is never going to "educate" anyone on law out there on the side of the road. All his ego-tripping, self-righteous indignation is certainly not going to make any cop back off, either. Is he just nuts?
Hey, if the cop is wrong, so be it. Take your video to his boss, play it for him, and be done with it. Take it to the press if you want. But wigging out and acting foolish at the time of the incident is wrong, period.

I disagree, and I have a lot of respect for the police, some of my friends have been cops. Attitude is everything...Grisham was not breaking the law at all. he was well within his rights. If the officer had asked to see his rifle...I think he would have complied with no problem...but he grabbed his rifle and he did it with an attitude. I have been stopped a few times by police (traffic) and I have always been polite to them and they have always been the same. But if one or the other comes at it with an attitude, it can turn a calm situtation into something that should not happen. If an officer wanted to check my firearm, I would have no problem with it....but if he grabbed it and tried to "take " it away from me without asking to see it.....I would not like it either. If I tried to grab an officers gun......he would rightly regard that as a threat and be within his right to defend himself. I think you need to treat people the way you like to be treated. If your dealing with a criminal and you k ow it...then you need to make sure you protect yourself. I think we all understand an LEO doing his job...and many do it well......I think if they all had it to do over again...all of them may do it differently. I think the LEO handled it wrong and I think they both over reacted a bit...just my thoughts. Luckily no one was injured and all went home safely.
I would have explained to the complainer that it was legal to carry a firearm in Texas as long as the man did nothing to threaten another person and let it go at that. I also understand the a LEO never knows who or what he is dealing with and they are not always good guys.

If anyone bothers to read this-
Sticky: READ this > HOW to use the 2A Forum

you will see that it says this:

Note the subtitle of this forum is "2nd Amendment Issues & Discussion".

Ideally, we should see nothing here that does not pertain directly to protection of or expansion of 2nd Amendment RIGHTS.
That means this forum is about LEGISLATION and responses from legislators or the actions of legislators or about carry permit laws and issues.

/\ Read that AGAIN /\

Ask yourself if your thread fits one of those topics!
We are having to move too many threads.

LINKS:
Don't
post a bare link and say "You gotta see this!".
Tell me WHY I gotta see this with a paragraph or two.
That is the start of a discussion.
Posting a bare link is merely creating an internet index.
Any link posted should pertain directly
to protection of or expansion of 2nd Amendment RIGHTS.
If your link gets deleted, you either failed to describe its value, or it does not meet our standards.

This is NOT:

This is not where you post general political discussion and comments on OTHER issues not related to the 2A. Other issues are the economy, Obamacare, libs in general, tinfoil and black choppers, how to start a revolution, etc, etc. Keep it focused on the 2A issues.

This is not for the latest news about some scumbag shooting someone or getting arrested with a gun.

This is not where you post your latest AR or AK.

This is not for discussing gun and ammo prices or availability.

This is not where you post which movie stars or talking heads are currently bashing the 2nd Amendment.

This is not for the latest news on a gunowner using a gun lawfully for self dense, unless it is simply an OUTSTANDING situation that we can use in the halls of Congress.

This is not where you will fix everything wrong with our society.

What we SHOULD do here:
ALERT people to upcoming restrictive legislation at ANY level of government, and discuss and promote methods to fight it.

ALERT
people to upcoming legislation (if any) that is supportive of gun rights, ownership, and usage or carry.

INFORM
people on methods of being proactive in the fight, including encouragement to join the NRA or donate to it.

INFORM people on methods of fighting abuse of our rights. An example is the thread running about a newspaper publishing names and addresses of permit holders in New York. While that is legal, we all know it is meant to cause distress to those permit holders.

INFORM people on which legislators are pro gun and anti gun.

Post real and accurate data that would be useful in the fight.

In the coming months, we will have plenty to talk about that is spot-on for this forum. Let's keep the clutter down, and stay focused on the object.

I'll also remind you to heed the rules for this board. You can find them at the top of this forum.
Especially note these two-
5. Do NOT even think about implying, wishing, or stating ANY kind of harm or misfortune should befall ANY elected government official.
If you want to talk to the Secret Service, just call them up and leave me out of the middle.

6. Derogatory, Flippant, or Crude names for any government official will NOT be tolerated.
Respect the OFFICE, if not the holder.

That means the President of the United States will be referred to as the President, or by the accepted usage of his last name or initials- 'Obama' or 'BHO'. Other government officials will be afforded the same courtesy.
