Pretty Outdoorsman of 1950

I picked this beauty up from an auction a few years ago. It was cataloged as an pre M27. It flew under the radar. Serial # 146xxx puts it probably late 1955. The last of the 5 screws. Unnumbered target grips but period correct upgrade. Not reamed to .357. I love these beautiful N frames

You need to shoot these guns, on a regular basis. It is the best shooter I've ever pointed down range.

I've never shot this one, too pretty to increase the cylinder ring on it. I do shoot my blue worn pre war HD and OD though!

Very nice OD. However, correct target stocks for 1955 would be non-relieved. Relieved targets started sometime in 1956.

I think this shipped in late 55. It wouldn't be stretch for an owner to wait just a bit to replace them in 56. In any case either one isn't the ones shipped.

BRITE POLISHED too! Nice... Most Outdoorsman were finished in a more muted brushed finish ad seem here with one of mine.

I think this shipped in late 55. It wouldn't be stretch for an owner to wait just a bit to replace them in 56. In any case either one isn't the ones shipped.

The target stocks are very nice but IMO the rounded checkering radius at the heel is a pretty good sign they are more likely from the 1964-1967 era.
If you compare your checkering radius to the ones in post 10 just above you will notice the 50's era target stocks had a sharp turn at the heel.
On a side note the 60's era checkered diamond target stocks likely had a shorter run due to the factory deleting the diamond around 1967-68 ish.

I used to have one of those. I was going to restore it. I paid 100 bucks for it some 30 years ago. Then eventually I gave up that idea. It had been recovered from a tide pool on the Oregon coast. Hand needed replacing and it needed to be timed and new s-rings and new finish.

I sold it to a friend for what I paid for it. Wish I had kept it.
