Victory Model Cylinder, Barrel Replacement - Compatability

I am replacing the barrel and cylinder on an old Victory model what was (improperly) converted from 38 S&W to 38 Special by boring out the cylinders. Yes, I am using a frame wrench and I have feeler gauges and a couple books, as well as some experience working on guns.

This is my first (significant) S&W revolver project.

My question is: Can I use a modern (or more modern) "K" frame 38 Special cylinder, or do I need to use a Victory model cylinder? Same question as to the barrel.

Late barrels (before the recent change to 2-piece) will work just fine (unless they are the ribbed target type, in which case it wouldn't look right). K frame threads have been the same since 1904.

Cylinders will work as long as you find one with the gas ring mounted on the cylinder like the pre-war ones. There have been a few changes that moved the gas ring from the cylinder to the yoke and back.

I'll add the obvious in saying your barrel is the pinned type-a late barrel would need to be notched for the pin,which I would do for appearance sake.
I also believe the threads are a little different,though compatible,on the non pinned barrels.
Note: I'm no expert,just adding my one,maybe two cents.
