I just got this and probably got stung. It is a 5 screw with pinned barrel, no under lug or caliber markings on barrel. Seems to be a 38S&W reamed out to be a 38 special on a "K" frame. Has BNP on each chamber and England engraved on cyl. Made in U.S.A engraved on frame. Front sight seems to be a good job. Got a strange hammer to me. Lock-up is tight & timing OK. I wouldn't be afraid to shoot it with safety glasses with 38 specials no +P's. I got it before I checked here. Reaming is a good job with little mismatch between diameters. Both rounds chamber well. Nickel plate is 100% but I need to find a better set of grips. Cylinder and frame serial #'s match. Any hnformation anyone can provide is apprecaated.

I can't remember who it was but long, long ago when I was young somebody was offering these. They were .38 S&W Victories with the barrels cut down to snub nose configuration. I obtained an old Victory from another source with the barrel cut in front of the ejector lug. It was reamed out to .38 Special but worked well. I did not have a problem with swelled cases. Others did.You may have a fine shooter.

Hope this helps.

Looks like a standard Victory or Pre-Victory model, originally in .38/200 caliber ( .38 S&W ) that got the post war treatment of boring out the cylinder to take a .38 Special round, and somebody cut the original 5 in. barrel back to the extractor rod and gave the gun a nickel plated job and later magna grips. What's the serial number?

Got a serial of #855357, I know grips aren't right. I'm satisfied to use it as a bed side gun though.

855357 is a Pre-Victory .38/200 caliber gun bought by the British Purchasing Commission in mid 1941. Original barrel length was 5 in. It would be a good bedside home security gun. I would load it with .38 S&W rounds rather than .38 Specials, as you want a deterrant cartridge rather than one that can more easily penetrate walls and perhaps strike a family member in an adjacent room, etc. An intruder hit with a .38S&W bullet is going to be very discouraged.

Hi,

I really appreciate all the good information given here. I do have a box of 38S&W's. I think I paid $21 for them, a good place to load them though, I hope they will never get used.

Thanks,
Bob
