I have a S&W .38 cal. Parkerized finish it is a 5 screw,4" bbl serial # frame cylinder and bbl match, has hole for the lanyard which has been removed. Serial #986841.the gun has no other govt marks at all. I believe it was supplied to the bay city mich AutoLite plant during wwII,as a guard gun the plant made misc auto parts such as lights etc.

The gun is a .38 special. It was a plant guard gun.

Hello JEM:

Thanks for posting the information on your pre-Victory Model. We will include it in the Victory Database.

A couple of questions, please. Is the finish parkerized? Are the stocks the smooth walnut variety and, if so, are they serial number matching to the gun?

By the way, from our Database we can estimate that your revolver was likely shipped from the factory in the May-June, 1942 time frame.

Regards,
Charlie Flick

The finish is parkerized I have not removed the grips from the gun.they are smooth walnut I assume they are original to the gun.I received it from the sheriff who got it from the plant (AutoLite) after wwII.
