Is there someone willing to help a girl out? My husband recently passed away and I am having to liquidate some of his possessions.

He had a beautiful Viking leather tooled holster. I've been trying to research it's value but I haven't found any that have the stamps that this one has.

It is stamped with two numbers - the number 7226, followed by "Handmade by Viking" "MEXICO" with the number 22M stamped under.

I don't particularly want to get rid of his things, but due to my financial situation it is necessary.

As mentioned I can't find any examples of these with s2 sets of numbers stamped on them. Most just say "Made by Viking MEXICO".

Thank you for your help.

Jeanne

Jeanne, first of all, welcome to the forum! My condolences on your loss. There are some very knowledgeable people on here including some holster experts. It may take them a little to respond but they will be here. :)

Thank you. I appreciate it. I am devastated by his loss. He was a good man. I know very little about guns, etc so its been a challenge.

I am a minor accumulator of leather holster and belts. If I was looking for something like what you pictured, I would love to own it for about $75, but could see it going to about $125 maybe even $150 to the right guy that wants it. It is a nice looking rig and appears to be in good condition.

My husband took good care of his things. He was ill for the past 10 years with me taking care of him. I never saw him use it. Because of his health he had to give up shooting.

The cartridge loops on the belt look like .22 caliber. By the way is the
belt inluded in your quest for value? I have a couple of holsters with
cartridge belts currently for sale in Accessories section of Classifieds.
Not much action on them, but the .22 could be more desirable.

What a tragedy for the two of you, I'm so sorry.

Our membership here is feeling some of your pain and so are offering what I think are overly optimistic views of a Viking holster's value. I had a look at a popular online sales site (we are not permitted to post links here on this forum) and it provides the ability to show what prices Viking holsters are actually selling at, vs being listed at. Viking is not a collectible brand and it appears on that site that U$30-70 is fairly typical. All buyers will want to know what the item fits, and have attractive images to go with.

7226 is the Viking model number for a Single Action basketweave holster and belt rig. I’m guessing that the 22 M indicates .22 Magnum, those look like long cartridge loops. That would indicate a Ruger Single Six revolver or maybe a Colt .22 SA revolver. The belt length is important to list, bigger belts sell for more money. You should be able to see or feel where the cylinder ends inside the holster and measure from there to the bottom to get an idea of barrel length, again I’m guessing 5 1/2”.
I’m sorry for your loss and hope we provided some help.
Regards,

Yes it's a Medium (34-38 in) .22 cal.
eBay or maybe Etsy would be a good place to sell. I have boxes of holsters, rigs, and belts I've bought through eBay- mostly Western. Viking makes good rigs and most aren't stamped like your basketweave.
It would be a higher-end model.
Like a poster mentioned above you may get $100 but it will sell. Something I would like.
