I'm thinking about drilling a hole in the buffer tube of my 15-22 but I'm worried about it may void my warranty or something. I understand that S&W wouldn't fix something that broke because of the hole, but they should still fix anything that may happen that is not associated with the hole (e.g. extractor), correct?

Thanks for any advice.

Don't know about the warranty issue but just want to let you know that inside the 15-22 buffer tube is steel lined.

That is my understanding. If you drilled a hole in the buffer tube and the tube broke, S&W should not have to repair on their nickel.

I had the end of my barrel threaded and a flash hider installed. Then my extractor went AWOL, so I had to ship it back to S&W. They fixed my rifle with no questions asked.

I didn't know about that, thanks for the heads up. That actually works great for me, I was a bit worried about the strength of the plastic.

What model 15-22 has a buffer tube?

No M16 or AR15 has a buffer tube and certainly the M&P 15-22 doesn't either.

Drilling a hole in it won't void any warranty.

I'm ignorant I guess, but why would you want to do this?
I attached a sling swivel stud at the front of the receiver extension since you can't attach the plate mount between the lower receiver and receiver extension since it's all one piece. Thanks for all the info guys.

Sometimes the drawings and cartoons you post reminds me of my father. He was a jet aircraft mechanic and had a book that included a character by the name of "Joe Swift". Joe spent much of his time being sucked thru the blades of a turbine engine and bonking his forehead on the leading edge of a wing. Thanks for tickling some of those memories.

Dang it I knew my gun had a cist I told everyone it did but no one believed me:D

Mine is called the "Emergency Twinkie Tube" as i like to snack while i shoot. :)

What's the grade school riddle again?

Oh yeah: How many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg?

-- Chuck

Answer: Four (4). Just because you call his tail a leg doesn't make it one.

For those lacking their first cup of coffee substitute "buffer tube" in the appropriate place... ;)

It's not a receiver extension, it's an empty mil-spec Pixy Stix.
