I hate phones, but I'm trying to help a lawyer friend get his VOIP working again after he switched offices.

The guy that he had do the wiring and who was the phone "expert" got in a pissing contest with COVAD VOIP support and now the COVAD VOIP tech won't call my friend back, after having been rude to HIM.

Can anybody give me any basic guidelines on what to do to get the phone(s) working again. He's got a fractional T-1 and Linksys SPA942 IP phones. I can get more details as required.

Like I said, I hate phones and am loathe to touch them. I try to stick to computers and data networking, but I'm trying to help out a friend.

Thanks.

Correction: He has COVAD DSL, not a T-1.

If the VOIP system was origanally configured for a fractional T-1, and now he has installed a DSL circuit, odds are the interface card at the CSU is not compatable. Different config entriely.
Start with the basics like that issue and work from there.

Hopefully the router has two ethernet interfaces on it. I would assume the handoff from the DSL line is ethernet. I have worked with covad and would not recommend them to anyone.
