- widow of slain officer:
On Oct. 7, 2009 our lives changed forever.
My husband, Sgt. Mickey Hutchens of the Winston-Salem Police
Department was shot in the face while he was backing up two officers who
were doing a domestic violence warrant service. He died 5 days
later.
During that call, the man who shot Mickey also shot Officer Daniel
Clark, once in the chest (which was stopped by his vest) and once in the
neck.
In spite of being wounded and knocked to the ground, Daniel was able
to draw his weapon and return fire, killing the suspect.
We will never know how many lives Daniel saved that day, the suspect
had already tried to enter the nearby Bojangle's Restaurant, but the
employees had locked the door, and I know the carnage would not have
stopped with just Mickey and Daniel, without Daniel's quick thinking and
action.
Daniel has been nominated for America's Most Wanted All Star.
