I just ordered a VTACII today. I've never seen one in person. Anyone have any experience with these. It looks like a great rifle in the videos and on paper. Now I'm too broke to buy optics. I may have to sell my 610 to fund more accys!

Congrats on your new rifle. Let us know how you like it.

The VTAC II is on my "do want" list. Unfortunately, it is also on my "can't justify the expense" list. :(

Wow that is a sweet rifle...so a person could get that barrel and make a middy sport. LOL Or maybe S&W will come out with a Middy Sport. dreaming again

I have the VTACII on one of my ar's and its nice. Using the 13" version on a 16" gov profile barrel, not the lightest one out there but it feels nice and durable. I really like the modular handguards nowadays, just put rails where you need 'em.

It wasn't easy to find this rifle in stock. Every one is selling out of S&Ws due to the election. I originally was looking for the new target model with the 5R barrel. Impossible to find. I couldn't pass this one up when I found it. I hope it will shoot moa as I'll be doing some varmint shooting as well as LEO duty. I'll post pics and a report when I get it.

I have the VTAC original and its is one sweet shooter.

Trigger is excellent and I mounted an EOTECH 517 to it along with a multiplier on a LaRue rail.

Takes a little getting used to the sling, but not a show stopper.

I think the VTACII is just slightly lighter than the original, but, I prefer the round JP tube to the newer style.

I'm sure Kyle and crew had their reasons for one vs the other. But, I have no complaints.

If your shooting 100% mil-spec ammo with hard primers, you MIGHT step up to a slightly stronger hammer spring. But, the one that came with mine has not caused even the slightest issue (personally).

I was out of town Tues. night and Wed. When we got home this afternoon I stopped by the office and my new VTACII was propped up against my office door. It is lighter than I expected. It is really nice. The trigger is better than any of my hunting rifles. I was in Cabelas looking at the Leupold VX-R zombie scope and I asked if they had any M&P 15s. He showed me the older tactical target model and it was marked $200 more than I paid for mine. Now to find time to go to the range. So far I'm very happy with the rifle.

I'm trying to decide between the VTACII or the 15T. Main use will be for 3 gun competitions.
Would really like the 15T with a longer battle rail but I really don't want to get into replacing the gas block. Does the 15T come with a low profile gas block?
Is the VTAC worth the $500 more over the 15T?

If you want the 15T with a longer rail, have you considered the 15TS? Has a longer rail, but the barrel is chrome lined, 1:7 twist.

The Leupold VX-R illuminated scopes are a lot of scope for the money.

The trigger alone is a $200 upgrade, throw in another $300 for the rail and stock. You could upgrade the T with these, but then you'll have to decide how much additional the mid-length gas system on the VTAC is worth.

AND......

VTAC® Wide, Padded 2-Point Tactical Sling
VLTOR™ IMod 6-Position, Collapsible Stock
VTAC® Light Mount
VTAC® LPSM Low Profile Sling Mount

The stock alone is about $90 (if you like the stock) then add another $100 or so for the sling, sling mount and light mount.

For me, the VTACII was a better buy because I found one at a good price. The trigger, stock, rail, and other accys add up to over $400 and you don't have to install them. It doesn't come with iron sights so I had to spend $75 for those. I ordered a VX-R patrol 1-4x24 scope from Leupold yesterday. I'll post pics when I get it all set up. At 25yds I put 4 out of 5 rounds into a quarter sized group with the iron sights when I took it out. (Off a bench rest of course!) I'm very happy with the rifle.
