Waffle House

We have one close by that's actually not too bad . The waitresses have way too many tattoo's for my liking but that's a personal thing . One thing you can count on is that it is FREEZING cold every time you go in .

The last time I was in a Waffle House I was the only one in the place not smoking a cigarette including the waitresses and cooks. And this was only about 15 years ago when smoking had pretty much gone out of style and there were laws against it in restaurants in OKC. My wife likes them and tries to get me to go to the local Waffle House but there is absolutely no way!

Stay with the Silverware

At least the silverware issues can be cured the nano plastics particles enter through the our cell walls and stay there. Just saying.

I got news for you: If a WH has a Yellow sign with Black letters, it is a company store! With a Black Sign and Yellow letters, it is a franchise store!

As of 2000, there was only one franchise store left in America, (In Chatanooga, Tenn. of course!) (I even ate there once!) The company bought back all the rest of the franchises.

Me personally, I order: Two eggs over easy, double hash Browns scattered, capped and smothered; along with whole wheat toast, coffee w/ cream.

I live in the land of Milk and Honey! My church has a Cracker Barrel and White Castle across the street and a Waffle House two doors to the east!

After spending almost 4 decades repairing restaurant equipment and driving a million + miles I knew which places to visit. This was in Colo. by the way. WH was a good place for lunch. Great BLT. Cracker Barrel was great food. Couldn't get Me in a Denny's with a winch. WH was usually clean. Being in almost every kitchen in the area it wasn't hard to pick a place to eat.

You can't buy....

...a scrambled egg that is really scrambled. I'm tired of getting scrambled eggs that are full of hunky white. last time I asked specifically that they be scrambled in a bowl. I was told that was 'normal'. Got the hunky white eggs anyway.

Two up the interstate a ways, one on each side. The one on the west side had a 2 AM "special." Came with a zippie full of white powder. Just built a new one nearby but haven't been there. Parking lot is full. Must sell a lot of "specials."

Used to go to WH fairly regularly when the bars closed but haven't been in years. If it is good enough for Bubba Watson after winning the Masters then who am I to judge. The food seemed good back then but anything tasted good at 3am.

Someone mentioned Howard Johnsons, I had to chuckle. I used to work at a gas station when I was about 16 and my buddy who was a year older ran a tow truck for the same station. It was right off of I71 N and there was a Ho Jos next door.

We would go there for all you can eat clams which I think was like 1.99 back in 77. The waitresses would see us coming she kept them coming. I think we wore out our welcome on more than one occasion.

The mechanic Patrick would wait for us to come back and Bud the owner to leave then he would head over to the bar with his passing comment "don't take in no work".

He would always come back a couple hours later in a better mood. We would shut down the station and he would crank up the country music and finish off whatever cars he had on the lifts.

Great God in Heaven!!!
Cracker Barrel AND white Castle! As far as your order-I categorically agree (with bacon). the only thing that keeps Waffle House from being divine is no biscuits.

The best Waffle House restaurants are located south of the Ohio river. North of the Ohio, they can't seem to get the guts right.

I was about to argue with you on two or three of those points, but ... by golly, thinking about it I believe you have it nailed. :-)

By the time I retired ten years ago we had four of them here. I would go in for free coffee and half off meals. Sometimes a fight would start with me already there. I would often leave one and a few minutes later have to come back for a fight. I have made arrests at all four of the local WH's. I got to see many cute drunk tricks. The ones around here were mostly clean, except for the restrooms. Drunks have bad aim. Don't go in those. We've got one WH that recently had two shooting incidents in two weeks. They have since hired a permanent rent-a-cop. I dated several "ladies" from WH's back in my adventurous days. Most were single Mom's trying to make it but I got tired of their kids waking me up. Two years ago I took my two oldest grand daughters to the mountains. It was 1 a.m. and we had just checked into out hotel somewhere in Tennessee. They were hungry and wanted to try a WH that was almost in the hotel parking lot. They had never been to one. It was full of a bunch of drunk cowboys fresh from a rodeo. Just as we finished eating the place exploded. I figured it would because you could tell a lot of them didn't like each other. We ran out the door without paying as the fight spread outside into the parking lot. I did manage to leave a $2 tip. Both girls said they wanted to go back sometime. The oldest told me "where else can you go for a free meal AND a show!"

Best I can remember is that the last time I was in a Waffle House was when I went to Graceland back in the 1990s. Now the nearest one to me is 30 miles away in Maryland. Maybe I'll have to check it out next time I go down there.

There is a Denny's less than a mile from the house and a Waffle House just a quarter mile past that. Have eaten at them both with no issues. 30 years ago our Xerox service team used to do morning meetings at Denny's once a week. I would get two Grand Slams and chow down. The Waffle House closest to us is right next door to Walmart. Coincidence? I think not.

I have never ordered it but while sitting at the counter I have seen people order "Biscuits and Gravy". The biscuits were in a tub under the back counter. A week later another person ordered B&G, I don't think the level of biscuits was any lower and looked pretty hard!

In 2007 I accompanied my nephew on his "senior trip" to the Knob Creek machine gun shoot and gun show. He had lived in California and neither of us had been to a WH. After the first visit he never wanted to try anything else. I think his quote was something like "Why mess with awesome".

The Waffle House Index is a metric named after the ubiquitous Southern US restaurant

The index consists of three levels, based on the extent of operations and service at the restaurant following a storm:[7][8][9]
Level Service Implication GREEN Full menu Restaurant has power and damage is minimal or absent.
