Wait for Shield or buy Compact?

Wondering if I should just go ahead and buy the compact 9c (or 40c) or wait for the Shield. I already own a FS 9 and want either the Shield or Compact as my EDC

I see the Compact being closest to form, function and trigger pull/feel to my FS and 12 round capacity. The Shield being slimmer and perhaps a better trigger and costing less if I stick it out and buy from LGS.

Is there a huge advantage of the Shield over the Compact in feel and conceal-ability?

Thinking of getting perhaps the 40 version of either and the spare 9mm barrel and mags

I have all of the above and I don't think there's much difference between the compact and the Shield. Price wise, the compact is $65 more but it includes a third mag.

I carry either one easily and with confidence. I am not as fussy about my carry guns' triggers as some may be, but the Shield trigger is better than the compact.

I like the narrow profile of the shield vs the compact. I also like the shield's safety for cc and SD/HD. The safety on the compact is obnoxious for IWB carry. Many people hate the safety on the shield but i think its perfect. Stays off if you dont want it. Unlike the safety on the FS and C models.

Which one can you grip and put on target consistently with your eyes closed?
That would be the one I would choose.

I carry a 9c, I also have the fs9. The 9c conceals great for me. I use the blackhawk pancake holster. I can use my fs9 magazines in my 9c if I want to.

another thought would be holsters, most use the same holster for fullsize and compact. For the shield a new holster is required I believe.

Shield is best carried in the pocket. Thus, if you plan to carry in the pocket, get the Shield. If you get the Shield, I would say get a 9mm. If you are getting the Compact, I would say get the one which matches the caliber of your full size so that magazines interchange.

I had the .357C and I sold it to get my .40 Shield. I loved the compact, but for me it was just to thick to carry comfortably every day. I Shield is incredibly comfortable to carry. So, like everyone says...."if it doesn't feel right, you will end up not carrying it like you should." So true in my case. I carry my Shield everyday now. I am 5' 8" 175#...avg size hands..for comparison.

I have the Glock 26 and the M&P 9C. The Glock is easier for me to carry concealed because it's a bit shorter than the M&P. I've carried both and prefer to carry the Glock. Having said that, I now have a Shield 9 and it's a night and day comparison. The Shield is much more comfortable to carry than either the Glock or the Compact. I carry at the 3:30 position for what it's worth. Good luck!

For me, the minor slimness advantage in the Shield, doesn't offset the capacity difference, and the inability to share mags between the Compact and the FS.

I really wanted the 9mm Shield very badly but I couldn't get ahold of one so I was able to get the 9c first. Long story short, I was able to get my hands on 2 9mm Shields the same day. One I bought myself as a B-Day present and at the same time, my wife bought me one as a B-Day present. So I ended up keeping both of them. The top is the 9c and the bottom is one of the 9mm Shields. IMO, just wait to get the Shield, or if you can afford both, get the 9c first and then the 9mm Shield.

I've owned a FS 9mm M&P for a year and recently purchased a 9mm Shield.

Wait for the Shield, or you will end up buying one later.

Wait for the one you want. I wanted a fs but settled for a compact. While its a great gun. I still should've waited for a fs with a thumb safety like I wanted.

I sold my Compact and kept my Shield - Compact didn't have enough size advantage over the Full Size, the Shield did. YMMV.

I would wait for the Shield. I have both the 9c and shield after getting lucky and putting a deposit down yesterday and getting the call that some had just arrived. The shield is so much more comfortable to carry.

If you like the Shield, then you're going to wet yourself over the Walther PPS; virtually the same dimensionally, and really, really so much nicer...which accounts for why the Walther is about $150.00 more.

I ended up getting best of both worlds in some way...I ended up buying a Shield .40 and also a Shield 9mm barrel (and some 9mm magazines) Last night I put 150 rounds of WWB and Federal Champion 115 grn through it with zero issues. I like the idea of being able to fire either caliber

The Shield is very comfortable to carry...right now it is a coin flip between the Shield and my XD-S on who is gonna go for the ride

All that being said at some point I'll probably get one of the Compacts...perhaps go the same route and get the .40 and a 9mm barrel

Still waiting for the Packmayr but I did use a Limbsaver on my Walther
PPS and loved it. The grip on the Shield seems to be like the grip on
the PPS. If I don't like the Packmayr glove I'll buy a Limbsaver.

THIS!!! I just bought another 9c to have a back up to my primary. I did not buy a shield as it's slightly smaller profile is not enough to justify less ammo capacity AND the inability to take a full size mag with xgrip, which I carry as a backup. The G26 is a great gun too and has the same advantages as the 9c, but for me the 9c points better and shoots smoother so I carry it and leave my Glocks at home.
