New to the forum but not new to S&W. Have a few Performance Center HG`s, EZ`s and... Have wanted an AR platform for yrs but never picked one up. Now that we live on 12+ acres in the middle of nowhere, I`m afforded the luxury of backyard target shooting. The previous home owner was a Sheriff, as well as an avid hunter, so I already have a cleared target practice area as a bonus. Its nicely made with a built up 8ft dirt berm behind it and 100 acres of woods behind that.

I was able to acquire a new Sport II that had the additional Magpul grip, hand-guard and stock already installed. I wish I had bought one sooner. Ran some Remington 5.56 ammo through it after initial cleaning to remove the factory manufacturing oils and etc. Straight out of the box the iron sights were dead on and I had no issues hitting the tree paddle targets back and forth at around 200 ft. Fun rifle and look forward to adding better secondary sights and pushing many more rounds through it at much farther distances. I even got the wife to fire it after her reluctance to do so after past .270/.243 experiences. She even said she would enjoy target shooting with this one once in awhile. Double win! Now if ammo prices would just go back down it would be better.

Good deal. Sounds like the two of you are getting some enjoyment from it. Hard to beat having your "own" range. My 20" Windham govt came with hard sights and it too was perfectly dialed in at 50m. I have since scoped it and now it's dedicated to longer distances.

You have made a good choice. Now I encourage you to start getting more magazines. The more the merrier. I am seeing some Internet dealers are out of stock and other dealers are limiting the quantity that can be purchased at a time.

Magpul Gen 3 magazines are considered to be the best quality polymer and are in high demand. Metal magazines such as D&H are a good choice also. Don't waste too much time before buying magazines. Once the panic catches up with them they will be gone at reasonable prices.

Oh I did. Already got a bunch of 30`s and even some 20s and 10s for easier bench shooting before the gun even shipped to my FFL guy. Most are Gen3 as I like the dust caps but got a deal on some Gen2 I snatched up too.
