Walked Away From model 10 (no dash)

A friend who was set up at the Civic Center show had this very decent 4" with, likely original stocks. A little holster wear at the muzzle and high points of cylinder but otherwise pretty nice. He was asking $750 and we could not come together on a price. I see very few no dash 10s around, in good condition and I would have given him $500, but no.

A lot more "show" than "sell" at the gun shows in my area. Crazy prices and see the same stuff over and over again.

You say that the seller is your friend- ask him what his reasoning is for that price. I would be interested to know.

Not to be considered a smart *** but do you usually have good luck buying guns for 2/3 of the asking price? If you consider something over priced ,why even try to deal?

I swear at least some of the vendors at gun shows don't really want to sell their wares.

I wonder if some of them are under pressure on the home front, and just set up at a show to satisfy the ball-and-chain? I can hear it now...

"Honey, I'm sorry, but nobody was interested in my aluminum Belchfire Super Snubnose in .50 BMG...even though I had it discount-priced at only $19,999..."

98% prewar Heavy Duty Outdoorsman for $400.00. He got it from a new vendor that had no idea what it was worth. The guy had a table full of gun related stuff but only 2 revolvers. My buddy prices his Smiths pretty high because he really doesn't want to sell them but use them to attract someone that has a Smith for sale.

It's a different world from just three years ago. And, condition is everything in the collectors world of anything be it guns or my world of vintage Porsche and Sunbeam Tiger. Seen those prices lately?
A no dash 10? That would have been at my house for that price.
Don't look now...they don't make them any longer.

While looking through my old inventory I saw that I had one that I sold about 5 years ago. The list did not say for how much. There was a time when I thought the availability of collector grade Smiths would always be there. Great pieces still show up from time to time, but everyone here knows what is happening these days. Good things come to those who wait, but some times you have to strike when the opportunity presents it's self. This apparently wasn't one of those times. He still had at at closing time Saturday and likely still Sunday afternoon. I'll find out at the next show.

My "no-dash" Model 10 from 1961 (excellent condition but without original grips) was acquired in the fall of 2019 for $400. It's not for sale but I sure hope it's worth almost twice as much these days! Don't you wish some of your investments, the kind you don't mind parting with, would appreciate this way?

Decent condition 10 "No Dash"......1961 IIRC.
Laid it on my G/show table spring of last year marked
at $450.00......nary a bite.
Now serves duty as a bedside piece.

Here's a Model 10 no dash I couldn't walk away from. But it was the fact that it was apparently a prize back in 1961 for a competitive shoot at the Crescent City (California?) gun club that convinced me to take it. Probably has been fired but looks like it has mostly been in this box since 1961. And since we're comparing prices. . . .this one was $568 about a year ago.

I talked to him at that show, and saw and handled that Outdoorsman...I generously offered to let him double his money on the spot, to which he kindly declined...I did manage to talk him out of a 1905 4th Target Model, which Roy today dated as shipping March 1924...

After talking it turned out he and I knew some of the same people, one of whom has regrettably passed on...Your buddy is a knowledgeable guy...Tell him I said hey, and I'll try to skin him out that Outdoorsman at another show......Ben
