Stopped in Walmart for some staples and of course went through the sporting goods to check on ammo. Several days ago there was slim pickings. Guess I was there at the right time today. Lots of hunting rifle ammo in various calibers (Mostly Winchester) Shotgun shells, as well as 22LR.

They had a supply of Winchester 6.5 Creedmoor which is what I was looking for as it is has been scarce on recently. $27 per box. Live in the Blue Ridge of Virginia so our Walmart is stocking up on Hunting supplies. As usual there was no one at the Sporting Goods counter. Took about 10 minutes for someone to show up after pressing the call button several times. She did have the key!

The 6.5 Creedmore is “The Legendary Whitetail Deer Cartridge” now?? Around here in central VA most of the ammo supply I encounter in Wal-Marts is .22LR and some shotgun shells.

Wow, the 3 Wal-Mart stores near me have little to no ammo still. One no longer sells ammo and the other 2 had only shotgun shells. (Northeast PA)

There are several local gun shops in my area who have ammo. One store in particular had a good Mic of hunting ammo and handgun ammo too. They even have .38 Special, .357 Magnum and 44 Magnum ammo and the prices aren't to bad in today's market.

The Field & Stream store had plenty of 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 Auto and .223 ammo but not anything else but for a little 22LR ammo.

As far as Wally World goes, I’ve been led to believe that local or district management decides whether or not to stock ammo (no handgun ammo of course) then the vagaries of their supply system will determine how much the store gets.
Overall though, things do seem to be getting a little better.

Funny thing at local Walmart with Patrick L post #10, yup three different loads for 350L, Winchester target was $14.95 for a box. What i did grab was couple boxes of 12ga. #2 shot.
Not sure my hypothesis on this is correct; placed a sizable order with SGA late yesterday morning and received tracking information, not just the courtesy email the actual out the door info. I read this as supply has caught up with demand and economic factors are keeping buyers away, Groceries or ammo?

Was in Wally World yesterday. and wow.. they had ammo(lots of 350 Legend?). They had shotshells and 22s on the shelf able to be picked up and put in the cart. Blue 325 Bulk packs of Federal was 24.95 but they had the cheaper 325 packs locked up yet. They got the key. guy asked why I wanted the one locked up and just told him they were cheaper at 21.16. Said he was gonna put them out too. The grandkids will just waste anyway. 5 boys with 5 rifles can sure blow through some 22s. Have to add. Shotshells are still pretty expensive so is some rifle ammo

Out here, when hunting season gets close, most stores try to have rifle and shotgun ammo for the deer and upland hunters as well as the duck & goose hunters.
If you snooze, you loose, which is not a good thing for making $$ when it counts.

Shooting targets is a 11 month thing, but a hunting tag is only good for 3 weeks in Nevada for a deer !!

My problem with buying ammo at Walmart is when you get a snot nosed kid who is obviously young enough to be your child, telling me I have to show ID to him to prove I am old enough to buy a box of bullets...

Get over it, it's not about you. These businesses have policy that the associate's have to follow or they can be reprimanded or even terminated for not following company rules. I'm in my mid 50's the kid that is proofing you for ammo has a cousin that works at the supermarket that proofs me for my beer.

The one the other day just asked for a date of birth..any date older than him I think. Aggravating to say the least. They don't ask my date of birth to buy beer or likker. It's obvious I am old enough

Went to WalMart today and the shelves were full of ammo. Last time I was in the manager said they would not be selling ammo at this store anymore. Guess they learned how much money they were losing.

Walmarts all around me, but none with sporting arms and ammunition. OTOH, they are very safe with automated guard towers in the parking lots and private security guards roaming. They are busy with frequent shootings and assaults. Thirty miles into the country and Walmarts stock ammunition. Makes me feel bad like I live in a violent third world country.

"get over it" ... wow.. you keep telling yourself that. When somebody is OBVIOUSLY older than the one selling a product, but is forced to PROVE they are, there is a problem. Especially for something that is a Fundamental, Constitutionally Protected Right. These are store policies, not law. How far we have fallen in this once great country. You sound like you will be just fine wearing a nice band on your arm to move around, or producing your papers at the check points. Good for you. I take issue with it.

Because someone doesn't sympathize with you're rant you accuse them of "wearing a nice arm band... producing papers". If you had taken to time to read my entire post you could easily see i identify with the problem, just see it differently. I'm thankful these young people are out and earning money not living off parents. So maybe you see me in the same boat as the person selling you the ammo, with contempt how dare they? Anyways all the best to you, please be mindful stores are private businesses that have to follow laws, and that is the reason for having these policies.
