I'm looking for a 66 or 19 and noticed that some are pinned and recessed. Is that the best. Would you pay more for a pinned and recessed? Thanks, Bob.

The pinned and recessed 19 and 66 snubs are usually the variants sought out by collectors and revolver fans. They were made when more attention was paid to details and quality.

For IDPA games and every day carry I personally prefer the 2.5" 66-2. The non recessed cylinder being easier to re load quickly with speed loaders, for me.

IMO, the non P&R 19's and pre lock non P&R 66's are fine revolvers.

P&R or not, a 2.5" 19 or 2.5" pre lock 66 is as good as it gets in a concealeable S&W sixgun. Regards 18DAI.

But if you just want to shoot it -- pinned and recessed doesn't matter. And actually, without the recessed chambers they're a bit easier to clean.

With Pin & recessed you don't get that unsightly gap.

It's also harder to tell whether or not it's loaded without opening the cylinder.

I had to look twice. I have EXACTLY the same WTB adds on 3 local sites.
A few weeks ago I bought a NIB Nickel 2 1/2" 19 with box, papers, and tools from a dealer I know who handles pre lock S&W's. I paid $750 but less than 7 days later he called me and wanted to buy it back for $850.

I just bought one today, a 2.5" 19 in nickel, pinned and recessed, NIB, box, papers & tools, claimed by the owner to never have been fired and it sure looks like that might be true. I'd been looking at it and thinking about it for several days. I got it for $680 and was feeling like I paid top dollar, but am now beginning to think I got a pretty good deal!!

I went to the last Indy 1500 gun show. It is advertised as the LARGEST show East of the Mississippi. There was ONE 2 1/2" 19 that was painted with spray paint, THAT'S IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Once you wrap your hands around one, you will feel what the difference is. The trigger is absolutely a dream to pull. Sort of like this one-

If you can get one for under $700 you got a decent deal. That is depending on condition and accessories.

One of my very, very few never, ever let go of this one guns. Another one is a 4 inch blued 19 that was worked over by Smith's custom shop in the mid 70's.

I read an opinion on another board - from a person who would know and is evidently well respected - that the day of the $1000 model 19's is not as far away as some would like to think.

He opined that the 3" 19 is already there and the P&R 2.5" 19's will get there next.

I recall twenty years ago standing around in a local gun shop smoking and joking with the old mossbacks. One of them opined that the days of the $1000 used Colt Python were fast approaching. We all chuckled.....

I would LOVE to find a 3" 19! Never even seen one. I have a 3" 66 and I know that if a 3" 19 showed up I wouldn't be able to resist it.:)

You and me both my friend, you and me both.

The last gun I bought was a 4 inch 619 as a nightstand/winter carry gun.

Wish I had scouted around some and gotten a 4 inch 19. I REALLY want a 2.5 inch 19 as a summer carry gun.

I just picked up a very nice nickel 19 2.5" for $550. It is a bit of a convoluted story spelled out in the "Price check on Model 19 2 1/2" thread, the how it came about, but I am very happy with the gun and with the ultimate outcome.

I carry a 2.5" 66 regularly but never carry my 2.5" 19 just because I can't bring myself to put holster wear on it. I recommend having both but hard to beat the stainless for carry.

Here's mine, a 19-3. I shoot mine frequently, and carry it. It has the best double action trigger I've ever experienced and is as accurate for me as any of my 4" revolvers. In fact, it's more accurate than some. Yes, it's pinned and recessed but I'm not convinced that makes a big difference. What matters is that Smith has made many thousands of K-frame revolvers and it really perfected the trigger and performance of these guns after decades of experience. My advice: if one becomes available at a reasonable price, buy it. Don't worry about whether it's pinned and recessed.

ash,18 dai is a good guy to listen to as far as advice on these k frame guns, especially the 66,19 models.

I'll second that as he knows his 19's and 66's. He's good man also! His comment on a 19 or 66 being the best revolver for concealed carry is true IMO. A non recessed revolver is faster to reload and easier to clean up. Two bennies to it's design. They are also better than a lighweight model for rapid fire control, long life and with a good holster and belt is very comfortable to carry.
