Wanted To Compare Shield and Glock/ Wow!

As to Glock disassembly, it is extremely easy, once you get the hang of it. First, remove mag, then lock open slide and check to make sure the chamber is empty. Magazine MUST be removed first.

Repeat the check of the chamber twice to make sure it is UNLOADED.

Once you have positively verified it is completely unloaded (no magazine and chamber empty), point in a safe direction and pull the trigger.

Then, assuming you are right handed, place right thumb behind grip as high as possible under the tang, and simultaneously wrap the fingers of your right hand over the top of the slide. Now, squeeze your fingers back toward your thumb just enough to relieve the pressure on the slide lock. NOTE: The slide lock is not two independent parts. It is ONE solid piece of steel and the grasping grooves are simply the opposite ends of one solid piece of steel which goes all the way through the frame.

While relieving the pressure on the slide lock by pulling the slide slightly back, using your left hand, reach under the dust cover and use your thumb and middle finger (thumb on left side and middle finger on right side) and squeeze tightly and pull the slide lock down on both sides. AT THE SAME TIME, release the slide to go forward. Once the slide passes the slide lock, it will slide off easily.

It took a few times to get the feel for field stripping a Glock but I've done it so much I don't even think when I field strip a Glock now. It just sort of happens almost Gump-like-mystically in a couple of seconds.

Hang in there. You'll get it.

My SD9 takes down just like a Glock, but I've noticed my Glock 23 is much easier to take apart than the SD. Not sure why.

OP, you're not the only guy to ever find taking down Glocks to be frustrating. That's why those replacement parts are available. Those trapezoid ones stick out just a wee bit more and make it easier to pull down. Spend the $12 so you can enjoy your Glock.

I know of two people one Witness and he died instantly that have shot themselves disassembling glocks some people have difficulty with disassembly the correct way and put muzzle toward there chest terrible idea but people do it I have wondered howmany people. Have shot themselves because of the process I have never had an issue mysel

To field strip a Glock:

Unload the gun. Do a chamber check to ensure it's unloaded.

Grasp the gun like this:

Yes, I know it's not a Glock, but the grip is the same.

I'm using my left hand, but you can use your right. Once you have the grip, just squeeze your hand. This will move the slide back just enough to remove pressure on the slide lock. You can see in the pic that the slide is back just a tiny bit. That's all you need.

Using the fore finger and thumb on the other hand, pull down on the slide lock (yes, that's the proper name).

While holding the slide lock down, let go of the slide. It should move forward about 1/16" more than normal. Release the slide lock.

Pull the trigger. The slide should just pop off the front at this point.

If you follow this procedure, the muzzle will always be pointed away from you and the chamber always clear. I skipped the chamber check once and had a ND.

An extended slide lock is highly recommended: Amazon.com: Lone Wolf Extended Slide Lock Lever (Black): Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41STZhE5iqL.@@AMEPARAM@@41STZhE5iqL

Or try this. STUL Glock Slide Removal Tool
Ordered one a few minutes after your post. Thanks.
The other suggestion, Brass Stacker Trapezoid Grip Stick was
another good suggestion. That may be for a near future buy, if I find these two levers don't lighten up__and they may. They have to be unusually tight from what I read in these posts. They just don't seem right. Time will tell.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
My M&P Shield 9 is and will be my primary carry. The Glock was out of curiosity mostly. But, I'll still put a few thousand rounds through it.
I do most of my shooting out in the desert with portable targets.
