Warning Shots

The law is cut and dry. The only people here that can legally fire at an animal are uniforms, period.
Please post a link to the Massachusetts law that says only the police are allowed to defend themselves or others from an animal attack. It sounds like a law that doesn't exist, but they have even crazier stuff over there than here in California. So, I'd like to see the law.

Your right, I made that up.

You are handicapped. You go out your front door. You see your teenager taking a beat down from a mob. You yell but no effect. You cant run down there and even if you did you could not help due to your condition. You draw your legal pistol and fire one round into your lawn. The mob runs off. Your kid is saved.

How many years should you get in prison for firing that shot?

You can walk, but not to good. You have to use a cane due to injuries from Viet Nam. You walk out of WalMart after dark. The parking lot is well lit. You get charged by a mob, they are yelling and screaming. One is behind you and he hits you so hard you see stars and cant breathe. When the mob is in hand reach of you, you manage to draw your legal .45 auto. They scatter. You wonder what would have happened if they had not stopped. You wonder what would have happened if you did not have your 45. You wonder what would have happened if you had to shoot one of them. They would have run off, leaving you with a wounded or dead unarmed (possibly) "victim". You thought of firing a warning shot in the air but are glad you were not forced to. You call the police right away and report the incident.

I would hope that a jury would be sympathetic to these situations as they are very close to the line of just cause.

Animal Control...Now that's a nice political job...I was being overtaken by feral cats a typical "crazy lady"on the next street kept around.

The politics of a job with animal control. Feral cats. Fleas. And a crazy lady thrown in for good measure. Whew.

An hour or two ago, I'd have bet good money that this thread couldn't get any sillier, any further off topic, and any further away from the forum category of concealed carry and self defense.

I'm glad I kept my money in my pocket, because I'd have lost that bet for sure.

I have been thinking about it today, and I can recall three occasions where I fired a single "warning shot" each time. No one got hurt, that was the intention and law enforcement never got involved. I guess if law enforcement was involved I wouldn't have to be firing warning shots in the first place. It might not always be "legal" to do but the alternative might be worse and it certainly isn't morally wrong to fire a warning shot.

If this board lasts for a thousand years, men will still not say "This was their finest hour."

with sincere apologies to Sir Winston........;)
