My Emergency stash has been depleted!! But a card and box of acceptable chocolate candy have been picked up.
I used to have a closet at work full of gifts and wrapping paper, "Just in case." But one day my wife was walking around my shop, spotted said gifts, and said "These must all be for me," and took every last one! I now have no safe place to create at stash, so I must pay attention to the calendar.
However, our anniversary is usually around the NRA convention and we often go. In 2009 we went to Charlotte a few days early to celebrate our 31st year together. So I'm driving thru town looking for a nice place and she kept pointing out burger joints! We end up at a very nice brew/restaurant. We have had a brew of the day or two and dinner is about half gone, when she looks at me and says: "I just realized you wanted a nice place, because it is our anniversary, I'm sorry but I forgot. Not just forgot for now, I forgot all about it since last year!" Then she teared up. I looked at her and said, "As long as you don't forget, that I love you, you can do NO WRONG!" She smiled and said, "You are so sweet...And I bet I really owe you, don't I?" Response: ONLY FOR THE NEXT 31 YEARS!
That, gentlemen, is how it is done!

We have a drawer full of cards: valentine, Easter, mother's day, father's day, birthday, anniversary, and Christmas. A couple of days before the big event, out come the appropriate cards and all is good.
For those really special days, a trip to the meat market gets meat for the grill, beverage of choice, and sides from the pantry. Hallmark does not make 1 thin dime off us. Sometimes there is even a movie and popcorn at the theater.

My wife had a brief fling as a Mary Kay rep. She gave up on it pretty quickly, but they had a thing called a "Satin Hands Kit" that contained a couple of kinds of hand conditioner (I guess that's what it was) in a nice plastic carry case that sold for about ten bucks IIRC.
I told her they were missing a GREAT marketing opportunity. They needed to take these things to gun shows, boat shows, lawn and garden shows, etc. and sell them to men as "emergency gift kits." You could stash them away in the gun safe, or the garage, or even in the trunk of the car. Get several and you're ready in case anyone ever asks, "Do you know what today is?"
"Sure I do," and go pull out one and announce "I was going to give this to you later, but since you asked..."
Suitable for wives, girlfriends, sisters, mothers and so on.

Valentines is a sexist holiday. There's all kinds of ads showing guys buying diamonds for their wife/girlfriend. I've never seen one showing the girl buying a new gun or fishin pole for her man.

Unless your gal is a active shooter, NEVER GIVE A GUN as a woman's Valentine gift! One year ago, three days after Christmas, I was standing at a gun counter, a lovely young woman ask me if I would give her 100 dollars for this? (a brand new 20 gauge Browning Citori) I didn't have 100 dollars cash on me! So she went to the next guy, and he had a $100 bill in her hand so fast, she giggled and said, "All I wanted for Christmas, was a new dress!"

The last time we has a discussion about the sexist nature of Vanentines day and there ought to be one for men, etc., the whole forum was shut down by the boss and countless members were suspended. The survivors lovingly refer to it as "The Night Of The Long Knives"
I was there and it was UGLY I am going no further as this is not even to be mentioned (kinda like Voldemort). If you need further elucidation-PM me and I'll fill you in-the thought of that night long ago still sends shutters through the forumMe too! Staying home so I can drink some wine with it too.

I think I only locked The Lounge for awhile- like while I deleted most of The Lounge except for a page or two. I had to prune the forum back then to keep it below 250,000 posts anyway, or the hosting fees became exorbitant. So, I figured The Lounge was expendable cause that meant I could keep more gun posts.
