Warranty for second owner?

I'm new here so forgive me if this has been covered, but does S&W's warranties carry to the second owner? I recently traded my Sig P250 for a new 9mm Shield even up. I haven't fired it yet, but was curious that if there were problems, would S&W honor the warranty? I honestly don't expect problems since I bought my 9c used, but figured it may be a valuable discussion for some.

Thanks in advance!

It's been discussed in a few other threads. From personal experience, S&W will not honor the warranty with a second owner. They've also posted it on their website that the warranty is for the original owner for the lifetime of the firearm.

That being said, the only ways they'd know if you were the second owner would be from telling them that you're not the original owner, the pistol having been serviced by them before with the original owner, or if the gun was registered with S&W by the original owner.

The warranty registration card is still in the box, but it does say to register within 10 days, which would have been nearly a year ago. Not sure if that would matter.

I still have the warranty card for every product I've bought in the last 10 years. I register everything on line; no card needed.

If you have an issue, there is a chance S&W will fix it for free. Just call them, explain the issue and let them tell you what to do. They have no obligation to you as the second owner so, there is no warranty to honor. Still, they might just hook you up. I've heard of other people being taken care of.

The benefit for you is that it's highly unlikely that you'll have trouble. If you do, most issues can be fixed easily; just ask us for help.

Thanks gentleman! Much appreciated.

Since they don't ask for a bill of sale, how would they know when the gun was purchased? You register the warranty on line, & they will either immediately issue you a warranty, or say there was a previous owner, but either way you will know this right after after submitting the info. Done this many times with HK, Beretta, & S&W. It won't work with Century because their 1 year warranty starts the day the gun leaves their factory. GARY
