Was looking for moodel 28 found this 13-2

I was looking for a Model 28 any dash for shooter when I saw this Model 13-2 at auction Did not know what it was to start but grips caught my eye.Very fine condition but the shooter I was looking for. Serial number 5D999xx puts it at 1979, I think grips are from mid 60's. I don't think they are cokes or know the wood type but you might.







Any information or thoughts are much appreciated. Grips fit my hand but don't seem to balance with 3 inch barrel. Small chip in left grip. I hope one of the members who restore grips can fix it.

Yes. At first I thought the grips would probably feel great but look weird with the round butt clearly visible from the rear. Then I saw it was a square butt. Pretty interesting. I like it being 3" but with a square butt.

Hello Bill, aint Cokes. look like a really dark GA wood and pre 1967 diamond grips. Shame about that chip.

They are a nice gun, I have a 13-2 (4") that I swapped the barrel for a $2.50 three inch. Yours has likely seen a barrel change as well. Your grips are very nice and easily fixed.

I didn't cut on the original hammer or trigger.

First of all a model 28 is a large N frame and a 13 is a smaller K frame. Different grips. I have a model 13 - 2 it has the target grips that I bought new with the gun around 1975. It came with the tiny magnas, I have them too. The diamond stocks were pre 1968 or there abouts.

OP:

The original grips would have S&W PC magna's with silver stock circle inserts on the back like the ones with the T-Grip. The black set I have in the pic are UM's boot grips, which are no longer made. Other than that you have a wide choice. I would at least get a set of PC magna's for it but for shooting you might want something else.
