Washington state assault weapons ban

Chief,
I think your referring to something I caught a very small piece of on a radio news broadcast, Seattle local news, mid December 09'...
http://smith-wessonforum.com/2nd-amendment-forum/113989-new-washington-state-awb.html
At that time (as you can read from Hoplo's post) it was assumed by all to be a re-treading of past attempted legislation.
However, after reading your link I'm beginning to wonder if like so many other things out here, this isn't trying to be "regionalized"? Since California's air and emissions standards have been adopted by you (Oregon) and me (Washington). As well as Lead and Mercury and water regulation(s), it wouldn't be beyond the pale for me to believe the Cali-enviro-weenies hadn't hooked up with their "fellow travelers" in both of our states capitols. In fact, it would be a logical extension of what was tried by New York and Chicago. Suing of other jurisdictions for THEIR failure to control THEIR own crime problems. Care to begin a contest to name the new state that'll run from Canada to Mexico the Marxists out here are trying to create?

Keep an eye on it. You're right near CA and these things have a way of migrating. NJ has had an AWB (largely mirrors the old Fed one) since the mid-90's and it will never go away.

The local scuttlebut is that this bill is all but dead. There's a committee hearing on Tuesday, and I'm fairly sure that will be the end of it.

The other one we need to worry about in WA right now is Washington House Bill 2477, which assigns strict liability to the seller for crimes committed with a gun purchased privately at a gun show.

Here is the bill: HB 2477 - 2009-10

Find your legislator: Find Your Legislator

HB 2477 hasn't even been scheduled for a hearing. There's only one week left before the policy committee cut-off. If it doesn't pass out of House Judiciary by February 5th, it's dead for the session.

Unfortunately, while we had the votes to block SB 5396, rumor has it a bunch of militia types will attend tomorrow's hearing. I guess they never heard about the Bonus Marchers and what their actions provoked: NFA 1934.

Getting very scary out here.

No more scary than it's ever been. There's a small and incorrigible group of left senators, centered around the profane and bilious Adam Kline (D) of Seattle. Since he's the chair of the judiciary committee, it's introduced every single year.

This is no different than every other year for the last 10 or so. That does not mean it's not worth watching; but it's not worth drawing any conclusions from. What WOULD be worth doing is organizing to support and back sane candidates, from either party, for election when he and the other libtard anti-constitutionist run for re-election.

Well,
As per usual! Every freakin' local radio news outlet is referring to them as "rapid fire assault rifle" regulations being considered?
At least they've gotten half way to the truth. Time was, they'd refer to them as "automatic assault rifles". Good thing they never saw a tape of Scary Jerry Miculek, or we'd have revolver restrictions too! If it goes on another 40 or 50 years, perhaps they'll arrive at the full truth? Knowing who we're dealing with, it'll take that long too!

Washingtonian here. From tacoma. Join the NRA guys. They e mail and mail you all the info on these things and send links directly to your legislators and representatives and their minions. some time phone numbers or hell sometimes pre-written replies to your local reps. NRA reps are there now fighting for your rights and its not cheap so show up or shell out and help the cause.

Also a Washingtonian here. Except I moved to the east coast 10 years ago and live in New York now.

Washington is actually a lot like New York -- you have this big cool state with lots of open space and nice people, and it is blighted by an urban cesspool where anti-gun politicians try to make a name for themselves by attempting to trample civil rights (as they pertain to firearms).

Fortunately Washington is a lot better off than New York -- your urban cesspools are not large enough to pollute the rest of the state. Presumably this silly law will go the way of the handgun safety course referendum and be beaten by a larger margin. And hopefully that will keep the King County and Seattle Anti-Gun Social Network on the defensive for another few years.

Well you about got it david. However those inter urban type are gaining ground because we all know how much more evolved and smarter they are than us. Thank god that minority is there to show us what is best for us. to bad in these liberal states the minority has the power. An example of this is the ban on carrying in public parks, hospitals where here in washington they are all in the slums. And we hunters are losing more seasons and game and rights faster than is believable.
