Washington State Gun Rights Advocates Want To Create 51st State!

Washington State Representative Matt Shea has introduced a bill in the state legislature that seeks to make the twenty counties east of the Cascade Mountains the 51st state. The state would be named "Liberty".

The same type of bill has been introduced in Illinois, to make Chicago area the 51st state, and I hear Calif is looking at dividing up into 2 or 3 states. I don't think anyone should hold their breath waiting for it to happen.

Yeap..... I've heard many people talk of combining the three counties of Delaware, the Eastern Shore Counties of Maryland and Virginia into the State of Delmarva. Also, cutting out the I-95 corridor from DC to Baltimore out of the rest of MD.

Legal Roadblocks?

I do not know if any legal mechanism exists for a state to divide into two states. If anyone knows, please share.

I have heard that Texas joined the US under a treaty and has (or once had) the ability to split in up to 5 states.

The eastern WA folks have been proposing to do this for 20 years (or more). It's never gotten any traction or progressed beyond the "we ought to..." stage. Probably never going to go anywhere - no matter how much as we wish it would...

Well, West Virginia became a state when it separated from Virginia. But despite being from there, I'm not all that familiar with just how it happened. I'm getting old, but it happened before my time!!

Despite our status as a separate state, many folks think we are just the western part of Virginia!!

Better to have Washington, Oregon and California create their own new states to grow the senate by 6 conservative votes.
