Yesterday I bought a blue 10-5 pinned 3" barrel from a guy for $330. The wear looks like it was a carry gun and it showed but the 'Bible' doesn't give much info. Serial number indicates 1974-1975 but it's not a taper barrel and it doesn't have any stamping so it doesn't appear it's an old LEO gun. Never seen or heard of a 3" domestic gun. Anyone got any info?

I bought a 10-5, 3 inch barrel, heavy barrel, square butt, shipped in 1968...........

Mine was a police turn-in from Victory, Australia. Too bad my daughter took it and ran!!!!!

Few 3" 10-5s were sold domestically.
Yours was likely from the same group as mine:

Not import marked as they were traded directly back to S&W.

Mine looks like the same animal, lots of honest wear. I really like the 3" S&W's so I am thinking of a re-blue.

I am very fond of this configuration. When we split, my ex-GF refused my offer to buy back the 3" M13 I'd bought her... I consoled myself with a 3" M66.
A year or so ago, I picked up a ex-Aussy Police trade-in 4" 66-7... as a house gun. It cleaned up nice & I bought a nice set of grips through the forum to retire the Goodyears. Maybe not as nice as the others but it groups just fine.
A lot of good bargains in Police trade ins.

that looks great
Thanks. I missed getting one before Buds Gun Shop sold out of them. Some time later this one showed up on their site. I am guessing someone bought it, and sent it back because it was pretty rough. Most of the pitting was shallow enough to get out in a couple evenings with 220 grit, then 320 grit. I didn't get it all, but got most of it.

There's plenty of Police guns that are not Dept. marked.

I just picked one up myself. I was thinking on a re blue also but when I got the gun it was nicer than was in the pictures. So it does not need it and I am happy about that. There are no import or police markings at all but has some kind of wood after market grips.
