Last year was gut-wrenching. I was raised on Penn State football and the requirement of academics first for a player.

Can't count how many times I was at Beaver Stadium with my parents and aunts, uncles, cousins growing-up in the 50-60's.

Simple, if you're a good athlete you must have an equally good GPA to play. Cause there will be no number on your helmet, no name on your jersey. Plain and simple. Play guts football.

I would gladly, personally put the big hurt on anyone who molests a child. But the NCAA has unmersifully spanked and punished those who had nothing to do with this disgusting predator. He'll rot in Hell. The innocent will be punished as well. Already done.

That said, I thought I'd offer this article for your observation. It takes a moment to open so be patient. It is not lengthly like my post. Just a simple truth about why we say, "We Are Penn State"

Thanks for letting me vent.

I have no idea what that means. Is it a regional slang?

A puke from Ohio and a puke from VA, wait, I just learned I was unfriended by 3 people. Must have been them extra toes, fingers and all.

I wish the powers that be had found a way to discipline without punishing the innocent players. Unfortunately Sandusky and those who covered for him left a stain that will last for decades. Twenty or thirty years ago this would have all been swept under the rug. Not so anymore, and rightly so.

I just can't believe how the fans, students, athletes, faculty and alumni were all punished for the actions and inactions of a few people.

I can. There were two things going on here. The NCAA felt that Penn State made them look bad. As others have found the NCAA takes a very dim view of any action that may reflect on them.

Second, it was a message to the rest of the colleges to get/keep their houses in order and not to try to bury stuff. The NCAA is basically saying the 11th Commandment, "Thou shall not tell", does not apply. That attitude is ingrained around much of America to a degree that is frightening. The NCAA hung Penn State up as the example of how that no longer works for them.

When all this blew up there was even a local radio host saying, "But X reported what he saw to the management, what else was he to do?" Sorry, but whatever business you are in, if you see a felony committed, especially against the person, you go VFR direct to the cops.

For those who feel the "School" shouldn't be punished for the actions of several highly placed employees, at what point do you hold the institution responsible? If covering up child rape isn't bad enough what is?

Kind of like punishing the law abiding gun owners for the actions of a few nuts.

I get where you are coming from, but the Penn State deal was more than just a single person going rogue. The organisation started covering for him, and that is why the NCAA dropped the hammer.

Well Nancy, you probably didn't open and read the link.
There's your sign. Hike up your skirt and check?

I graduated from Penn State. I never attended any sports events there. I don't understand the "We are Penn State" mentality.

I am a "product" of how I was raised by my family, not of some school.

This would be a good thread to LOCK......before I say something that will p.o. the o.p.......

I agree but I will go so far to say that I believe Penn State athletics, which competes under NCAA rules, got exactly what they deserved.

Do tell, what words of wisdom will p. me o.?
Please educate the Forum with your wisdom.
I gave a link to the Chant and most who replied probably didn't read it. An informative post attracts the negative knee-jerk reaction.
