That State

I was a consulting Engineer and got a job in LA. The town had a factory, a motel, a bar and a restaurant. The people were nice, but the facilities were something else. One man owned all 4 and was the mayor besides.

I spent 3 weeks there. Half way thru the 3rd week I started to feel bad. When I got home and was REAL bad I went to the doctor and he put me in the hospital in a private room. Turned out to be viral hepatitis. I was on my back for 3 months and of course was not able to work or collect any salary.

I have been to New Orleans many times and loved it. But after that I'll stay away from the little towns.

Was on a visit to one of our service points, Port Allen, just west of Baton Rouge. Got terribly sick with a gall bladder attack and getting back to Fort Worth was an exercise in torture. I went straight into surgery when I returned. Other than for passing through, after that I never wanted to return to LA.

I grew up down river from NOLA. Have lived all over the toe box of the state. I don't mind the heat and humidity. In fact, I'm not comfortable in dry areas (like AZ where my brother moved to). The bugs I can take for a couple of hours before I get tired of them and call it a day. Teal season in the marsh is a whole different thing though. I could never leave our food though. On the other hand, my son has successfully transplanted our cooking to Tennessee. That boy can cook.
