My wife works part time doing CNA work with elderly. Her last patient was a 93 year old vet. of the battle of the bulge he was wounded in the arm and took 4 years to get the use of his arm back. He had a little Doxie named Lilly she was to turn 16 years old in July. After Leon passed about 2 months ago my wife took Lilly in To keep my beagle Sammie company. For the last 3 days Lilly would not eat or drink. This morning after my wife left for her regular Job Lillly started to cry but it did not last long and she passed. I buried her in the back yard and when my wife called on her lunch break I had to tell her Lilly passed .Though we only had her for a few months it is heart breaking to loose a pet.

My sincerest condolences. I recently had to put down my dog (12-20-13) and I'm still grieving. He was my constant companion, rode in the car with me everywhere I went (when possible), and was at my side all the time when I was home. I miss him more than I can say.

I don't think a man is complete without the love of a good dog, and one that he can love in return.

I took in a blue Sheltie one time under similar circumstances. She wangled her way into my heart in less than a month. As Shelties are wont to do, she died of heart failure in my arms. First time I cried in over 40 years.

Bless you and your wife for taking Lilly in and making her last months a happy home. She'll be waiting for you at the bridge.

The only way to look at this is to know that you gave Lilly a good home for the two months she had remaining. What would've happened to her otherwise? She has rejoined her former master at the Rainbow Bridge, as many here say. They had a good life together all those years, & you eased her last months. God Speed to Lilly & prayers that you & your wife's grief will pass soon.

You know I got attached to the old girl .But it was funny to see her get so happy when my wife walked in the door. She would take both Sammie and Lilly out for a walk every morning and night. I did it several times during the day as I've been home since December. But when ever I go out in my truck Sammie is my co-pilot if I leave him in the truck for a few minutes to run into the store he will bay with that Beagle bark till I come back. It is funny to see peoples reaction It always brings a smile to peoples face .I have a knick name that I call him its MOUTH ALMIGHTY.

I know what you're feeling and you have my sympathy. My boy Trooper (see above picture) died yesterday. He was only 7years old and was my best buddy. I found him dead on his pet bed when I woke up yesterday. He might have had a heart attack. I will never know. I took him to a pet crematory and he was cremated immediately. I just returned from picking up the ashes. I have his sister and hope she last a while longer. Trooper and his sister, Angel, were born in my basement and have always been together. She and I are grieving together.

Bless you and your wife for taking Lillie in and giving her the love that her master no longer could.
As the others have said, losing a devoted pet is one of the worst things that happens during our lifetime. I still hopefully have many years left with my buddy, but I dread the day that will certainly come.
Think I'd rather be first.

This makes an already gray day darker. Im sorry for the loss of both that dog, as well as the vet. Reading these hurts and constantly reminds me how short and precious life is. Because of things like this--I dont sweat the small stuff that Shasta does--like sleeping on my clean socks, running and sliding on my carpet next to my bed, washing her feet in her water bowl, stealing my keys, stealing my chair etc.

You could consider honoring the memory of the fallen vet, and his dog, by adopting another dog. The shelters are always full to bursting. Adopt an adult dog; everyone adopts puppies, and adults get overlooked.

How true, there is always a new, trusted loyal companion waiting for a home.

I lost Mac and Duke to old age both at 17 years and I was kinda lost until we found a Henry at the shelter in need of a home at age 2. He kinda fit right into where Mac and Duke use to be. I think of them every day but the pain of their loss is softened by this guy Henry.

My sympathies. :(

I lost my first cat, Dexter, last august, and not a day goes by where I don't miss him.

They are family. Especially for those of us who don't have children....they are our fur-babies. And I don't care if you have them for 15 years or 3 months, they become your family, and it hurts to lose them.

There sure are a bunch of pet lovers here & I'm one of 'em. When my wife Joan passed 5 1/2 years ago she left me with 2 Maltese Terriers. Mother & daughter. Had to put the Mother down last Christmas. Lousy Christmas present for sure. Now Just have the one 12 Y.O named Valentina. She is a lot of company.

My heart goes out to you sureshot... we love and care for them and we get our hearts broken every time. Kudos to you and your wife for taking care of Lily, and may your memories of her be sweet. God Bless.
