Let me start by saying that I don't think its going to happen, the Sigma is S&W's value line. While I'm sure they make money on the Sigma, I'd be willing to bet that the M&P line is a much bigger money maker, and therefore where most of the options lie.

However, I am sure there is an inexpensive .45 ACP market that S&W is missing out on. The M&P45 is a $500+ pistol new, if Smith could market a .45 ACP SW45VE with an actual selling price in the $350-$400 range, they could have a real winner on their hands.

I purchased a 9VE from Bud's a couple months back for $302 shipped. My dealer, who was in a good mood the day I picked it up, did the transfer for $12.50. I decided to go with the $50 rebate on the gun since I just bought it as a plinker to see what the "fuss" was about with the Sigma (I freely admit to having been a Sigma hater, having seen a lot of Sigma failures with the 1st gen guns). Once the rebate arrives I will be at less than $265 OTD for a brand new 9VE.

So far I am very impressed with the gun for $265. The trigger is not what I would call crisp or light, but its not nearly the major problem that the internet commandos would have one believe. The grip is excellent, the sights are decent, the gun looks good (much better than the original), and its reasonable compact and sleek.

I think the .45 ACP would be a winner in the Sigma, especially if it could be sold for somewhere around the same price as the 9mm and .40 versions.

I agree. I would buy a .45 if it can in a Sigma flavor. S&W are missing out in a market here as I know that Hi-Point has an inexpensive .45 pistol.

id buy a .45 sigma...if i wasnt a solid believer that .45 needs to be shot out of 1911's only :p

Problem is you can buy a new 1911 for $350 out the door. May not be a show winner but it'll still shoot.

Size, weight and price about the same. Capacity probably 12 + 1. A winner for sure! I'll take two!

I know you can get a Hi-Point .45 for under $200. Last time I chcked prices on a 1911 I was looking at almost a grand for even the cheapest model.

Why not just buy the S&W40VE and leave it at that? If one would wish there was a ACP45, why would you buy a 9mm? Makes no sense to me.

I would certainly buy a Sigma in .45 ACP, especially if it was priced comparably to the other Sigma models.

Well, the reason that jumps out at me right off hand is that the 40VE is a .40 S&W, not a .45 ACP. That seems to be reason enough not to buy the 40VE if what one wants is a .45 ACP.

However, the main reason that I won't ever own a 40VE, or any other .40 S&W for that matter, is that I have no use for the .40 S&W. I know plenty of people that like the .40S&W, but I'm not one of them. I'm far from alone in my opinion about it.

As for why buy a 9mm if one wants a .45 ACP, well, why not? I own several guns in both chamberings. They do different jobs well. My goal when buying the Sigma was to shoot the snot out of it to see whether its a good as some folks say, or trash as others claim. That is both cheaper and more pleasant to do with a 9mm. If it was available in .45 ACP, I would have bought that version, as the ACP is my favorite pistol cartridge. Since it isn't, it makes a lot more sense to go with the 9mm. The .40 S&W is not now, and never will be a .45 ACP.

There are about 5 brands being made in the Phillippines. All of them are right around that price mark. My brother picked one up a couple of weeks ago at the shop and last weekend I saw about 7 different vendors with the various brands all were $350 - $375 out the door.

Rock Island Armory puts out a decent 1911....people compare it to the springfield which is 150-200 bucks more. They were at buds gun shop for 399 shipped to your dealer.

It would be cool, I don't see a Sigma in .45 ACP happening because of packaging size. It would in my humble opinion require a different size lower housing. One of the best features from S&W's point of view is that the Sigma-9 and the Sigma-40 share the same lower because of similar cartridge size. BTW, I was brought up on 1911's in the military and I think my Sigma ( SW40VE ) rocks.
