We went to a very nice Cajun restaurant for New Years Eve. A remarkable number of mature gentlemen were wearing baseball caps indoors. Were their heads cold? Were they born in a barn?

Come on, unless you're 14 years old and have your pants hanging down your butt, take off your hats indoors!
Rant over, flame on.

I'm not a hat wearer and I don't particularly mind folks wearing them indoors at bar. But if you are at a table eating dinner, take it off already.
Heck, some guys don't even take their hat off during the National Anthem at a game. That's down-right offensive.

I was raised to be a gentleman in all kinds of ways that have fallen away. I still open doors for women and often for men or children. When walking with a woman (a great rarity these days) I instinctively walk on the street side. And I take off my hat when entering a building unless I'm running into Kroger of Walgreens for one quick item.

I'm too damn old to change those reflexes.

I agree lids removed indoors, I always do. I have a friend that wears his hat to bed I think , will not take it off for anything. like he's embarrassed to take it off
He once upset my mom by not wanting to take off his hat at the lunch table
Some people make their own rules I guess

My main hat isn't stylish--it's a 25-year-old Pendleton Outback that droopily shows its age. The usual alternative is an aging Bark River Knife & Tool baseball cap. I still take them off when going indoors.

I can't see any excuse for failing to uncover for the National Anthem if you have one hand that works. That is flat wrong.

I have to admit that I'm one of the ball cap guys. I still do all of those things that shouldazagged mentioned except ALWAYS removing the cap indoors. WalMart, clubhouse, gunshop, greasy spoon, basketball game, car dealership, etc.? No. Church, funerals, weddings,at my own table or someone else's,a NICE restaurant, local concert series, etc.? By all means. Times have changed and wearing my cap anywhere that doesn't make me stand out in the crowd is one of those things that no longer makes me feel embarrassed in any way whatsoever. I consider myself to be a gentleman and I honestly believe that I am viewed that way by those who know me and whose opinions I value. As to guys who don't remove their hats for our National Anthem,I have been known to remove it FOR them!
f.t.

Amen about the national anthem. I've often had the urge to shout "HATS OFF!" but that might be even more disrespectful.

We have one goober that wears his ball cap in the office.

If I had worn a hat indoors my dad would have slapped the hat off, and likely my head as well.

I was at dinner the other night. I had my hat on.

Sure, I may have spit on the floor a few times, but at least I did it underneath the table - it's not like anyone was gonna step in it.

Some guy across the room kept looking at me....
I wonder what the heck his problem was? I wish people would just mind their business.

My Momma woulda whupped my butt if I set down to eat with my hat on. She tried to make me a gentleman and most of it took.

I agree with fat tom in most cases, but a cowboy hat at a basketball game might cause some heartburn in them behind me.

Survival still counts...

A rodeo is a whole different matter.

I was burping, farting and picking my nose at the table.

What's in a name?

I don't wear hats except occasionally. When I do wear one, it comes off the minute I enter the house, a restaurant, etc. I don't take it off when I am in a grocery store, Walmart, etc. At those times I just leave it in the car. I expect people to remove their hats when they come into the church or when they are in my home. Sincerely. brucev.
