Wearing hats indoors

People assume the way they were raised was the right way. Get over it is all i can say. Carry on with your life how you prefer to, but when it comes to another person, they can do whatever the hell they want.

I am an old bald headed man. I have a huge scar on my head from spindle cell cancer. That does not bother me much. What bothers me is a cold draft that stops my head up. When I am eating out and face this situation the cap is going to win every time. There are places and times when any civilized person knows that the cap or hat comes off.

This topic has legs!

I'd like to compliment Zzipper on starting a thread on a seemingly innocuous topic that has elicited a surprisingly high degree of passion among the membership.

Hats off, Zzipp!:)

About culture change....the safety folks have made mandatory vehicle head rests that make it near impossible to wear proper hats (brim all around) while driving. At least if the head rest is adjusted per safety standards. Or maybe I need to try something like a Bowler.

I've discovered that if you jam the head rest all the way down, you may be able to still style while driving.

I'm well into my seventh decade and I've seen a few changes in the world.
I grew up in a fairly warm climate, so hats were not common when I was young. We even played baseball without caps. :D

When hats were worn, they were usually worn for a reason, like sunshade, warmth, or to keep something out of your hair.
It has been interesting to see the Linus-blanket attachment to hats evolve over the years.

Don't get me wrong- I've worn hats much of my life also. Mainly when I was outside a lot more than I am now. The temp dropped last night to the lowest this winter, and I had to hunt a cap to wear.

In the 60's, the Army abandoned a fairly cool kepi for the fatigue uniform in favor of the most shapeless, nondescript baseball cap ever built. It was horrible. This was just before I went in. It had a rubber brim inside cloth. It was completely impossible to make it retain any kind of stylish shape. It was required in Basic, AIT, and jump school. Even the Marines had a waaaayyyyyyyy better looking fatigue cap.

We had Recon Marines in my class at jump school, and we hated them for having a better hat, even with the pigeon ball stamped on the front. :D :p
After training, the first thing we all did was hit the PX and buy a new pair of Corcorans and a decent cap! The crowns could be formed and the brims could be curled.
One had to be a stylish trooper. ;)
Guys who continued to wear the issue hat anywhere but on KP........well, you usually didn't want to hang with a guy like that. :D
