I checked the weather.com app thing on my new iPhone last night before bed. It showed rain all day today, starting at 0700 hours. So I think "No motorcycle ride in the morning, yuck! Oh well."

Yep, you guessed it. Slept a little late because of the forecast. Got up and CLEAR SKIES! Shoot!

I hate weather.com, anyone know of an app that is accurate? At least a little accurate?

RANT OFF.

When my daughter was in high school I told her the perfect job would be a weather person . Think about it , who do you go to to complain when they are wrong ? Have you ever heard of anyone complaining ? Do they get fired when they are wrong ? See , perfect job .

I think that the larger point is that it's darned hard to predict the weather, even 24 hours out. There are six major computer models used to predict weather and they don't always agree.

Which I always keep in mind when I hear people telling us what the weather is going to be like in 100 years.

I have found my local office of the National Weather Service provides very good forecasts. National Weather Service On a phone I just use the weather app from my local NBC affiliate because it opens to local Doppler Weather Radar. That and a lifetime of weather experience as well as severe bursitis in the middle toe of my left foot allow me to tell if it is going to rain, most times anyway. I used to have a cricket, but it died. :(

Folks complain here all the time if the Weather guys and gals don't get it right 100% of the time. Complain when they interrupt a soap opera to give a tornado warning. Beats all I ever seen.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

All other sources merely reword and summarize NOAA's data so I bypass the distortion and go straight to the data: National Weather Service After it's open type in your zip code, scroll down and click on the hourly weather forecast graph then book mark it. Instead of "chance of rain" I get there is a 14% chance it might rain during that hour. It is surprising how accurate they are. I do not miss the babbling bubble heads at all.

My phone has Accuweather. It's usually pretty accurate. Sometimes to the point of scary . . . It will show things like rain starting in 52 minutes, and it's within a minute or two.

Maybe I'll try that. Thanks.

A few weeks back, my roofer called to install my new roof the next day. I told him my app (weather.com) was showing an 80% chance of rain. He said his app was showing no rain.

Sure enough, he showed and reroofed the house. It never rained.
