We had light showers this morning and I decided to grab my nylon rain coat from the closet where it has been hanging for I would guess at least 8 years. Walked across the back yard to the neighbors what I would guess was only 3 minutes at best and by the time I got there my shoulders and back were wet.

Anyone here ever use any type of weather proofing on a nylon coat. This one is a Stearns Dry Wear, I had no idea that the rain treatment would diminish while hanging idle.

After trying many brands of rain outerwear, we bought a very lite and comfortable set of rain gear from a company called Frogg Toggs.
To break it in, we rode my husbands motorcycle in heavy rain from NYC to Raleigh NC wearing that gear. It kept us completely dry, and was very breathable.

I have had to retreat several rain garments after 5 or 6 years, that seems to be the shelf life! I used the heavy duty Scotch Guard. I put it on very lightly and let dry for 4 or 5 hours then repeat, for a total of 4 to 6 coats. This usually was good for 2 years, as long as it didn't need laundered!

I have a camo set of Frogg Toggs, that have ridden in my truck for 11 years now, and are still good, but I bought a Gore-Tex rain suite this year anyway! (Really needed something this Labor Day camping trip!) It helps if you have them with you!

Anyone tried that Scotchgard on an old school umbrella? I have one that leaks a little and was wondering if that would work. It's the one that I keep in my truck for getting caught unprepared. *s*

just re did the seams on my jacket and used Kiwi Camp Dry .. but about any silicone spray that is safe for use on fabric will work .. some of the tent water proofing works well also ..

Always carry these in my hunting pack, can be a real lifesaver on rainy winter days. The bigger the bag the better!

Used to use them in college for those football games where it was raining and diluting our cocktails in the stadium

Frogg Toggs were the best $20 I ever spent. Had to stand outside and ref a shooting tournament for 6 days. Weather said rain was coming so the night before went to Walmart and bought a set. Worked great. Feet got soaked, but the rest of me was dry.

Wife and I each have a set in the trunk....... now you got me wondering if they are still good??????? About 5 years old. Got them for sons Soccer games...... haven't needed/used them the last 2 years.

What should I expect???????

Mine are about 10 years old and spent about 5 of those years rolled up under the seat of my truck. They spent many a day in duck blinds, in the field at dog hunt tests, and got put on in the truck because it was raining when I got where I was going. Mine have held up well.

Ours must be 15 years old. We keep them neatly folded in the original plastic wrapping, in my husband's motorcycle trunk.

We have not had another drenching like that all day gully washer, but last year we rode through about three hours of rain, and were completely dry underneath. Bear in mind the motorcycle saddle is concave and creates a pool in the rain, so we are seated in water, but still dry.

I'll often use the jacket portion as a windbreaker.
