Webley Tempest air pistol

When I was growing up I lusted after a Webley Tempest air pistol that was in an airgun catalog I had. They went for an incredible ampount of money (about $75). You could even get a Bianchi holster.

I was just looking at the results of an auction that was held this morning and saw that one sold for $65.

I did a little searching on-line and saw that the going rate for one of these is about $200. I guess I missed my chance.

Anyone on the forum have one?

I would love to hear if they would have held up to a 13 year old's expectations.

I have one...The darn thing shoots like it's still new, but I admit it's not been shot too much over the years. It is a cool air pistol. Well, held up...yes!

I had one... briefly, circa 1980. I spent a lot of time drooling over the Beeman catalog, and took the plunge for one of these. Hated it.
It appeared to have an over-sized bore (which I've since heard are not rare in some English airguns) and was inaccurate, even with top-quality match pellets. I didn't have a chronograph at that time, but I also thought it was not nearly as powerful as it was portrayed. I sold it and was very happy to be rid of it. I've seen only 1 since, which was in "wrecked, relic" condition. I wonder how one would get parts for one of these, if needed...

I hope this helps your gun-lust! (We won't talk about the really nice FWB 124D I let get away, or the Diana 35 that shot like a laser, or the minty 1950's Walther break-barrel match rifle that I STUPIDLY let get away, or the FWB 300S... I really regret selling all of those, and more...)

I just checked one of my old Beeman catalogs. They said the Tempest in .22 would shoot .85" at 10 meters, 5 shots. The .177 was said to shoot .75".

I owned the HW70 which Beeman said would shoot .32" but I could never get mine to shoot that tight. I sold it and bought a FWB 65. Now THAT was a shooter. I still have it and I'm pretty sure it'll do the .04" that it was rated for.

I got one,

Brought it in the early 1980s, .177 cal. a well made and compact air pistol, quite accurate too, mine shot best with either RWS Super Point or Super Dome, as seen in the photo I had the factory plastic grip replaced with hard wood grip. I since had other more expensive airguns, but still shot the Tempest once in a while from the back of my garage into the backyard, hardly made any noise at all.

John F, I feel your pain, I pass up a chance to buy a FWB 124 at a good price a number of yrs back, now I can't find any of them around. oh well.

i have one also from the early 80s still shoots like a champ with beman silver bear pellets. had no idea they sold for that much might have to put it up for auction.sure had a lot of fun with it.

I had one in the early eighties and it was accurate and had a nice trigger. It was fairly powerful and also fairly quiet and had good handling qualities, the only problem with it, was it was a single shot. I bought a 10 shot CO2 S&W 6" 686 and found it much more useful and enjoyable.

I have their Hurricane model that looks like the Tempest but maybe bigger? Mine has killed a lot of Coke cans and has always been a fun plinker. I think I paid $50-75 many years ago for mine.

Amen on the FWB 65. Mine is teaching me I have a lot to learn about pistol shooting. Possibly in a while I'll be a fairly good pistol shot.

I had one just like Tony C's, with the fancy stocks and all. Bought it when I worked in the gun store. Shot umpty-thousand rounds through it (set up a trap and would shoot it indoors) for years. Got rid of it 12 years ago when we built our present house - lots of picture windows all over the place (I knew I'd be tempted to shoot a mouse or cat or packrat outside and would take out a window by accident). Gave it to a Boy Scout troop - I trust they're still using it.
