Avoiding any and all auction websites whatsoever, which websites do you use to purchase firearms and do you recommend them and if you would - why do you recommend them. The local supply of old S&W shooters - revolvers and third generations - is starting to dry up, and I may have to "cheat" and go online. I am particularly interested in low price police trade in "shooters". No need to mention Bud's Gun Shop, CDNN, or any auction sites. Thank you all in advance.

I sometimes use "Armslist" They are sort of like the Craigslist of gun shopping - No feedback on sellers, and lots of scams. BUT, if I see something within an hours drive that I like, I'll take the chance and check it out. Lots of over priced private sales, but also a lot of folks who don't know what they have, value wise. I wouldn't trust the site for a gun that has to be paid for first, then shipped, unless it is from a known retail vendor.

I’ve had really good dealing with Bud’s. I love the 180 lay a way. It keeps me on track to buy a minimum of 2 guns per year and doesn’t hit my wallet so hard at once.

I bought a budget Remington 700 through Palmetto State Armory, and a somewhat pricey Savage through Brownell's. I was perfectly satisfied in both cases, although the Palmetto FFL selector was somewhat off, listing my chosen FFL as not on file, when they were.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Palmetto and Brownell's.

Aim surplus

Shooters no collectables I can not think of the others, been a while since I bought anything from them. You get what you get.

I just bought a colt defender 9mm from the Army Air Force Exchange. I paid for it with a credit card, it was shipped to the nearest military base, in this case Selfridge ANG base in Harrison Township Mi. I completed the paperwork there. The only bad thing about the experience was the travel. I had to drive 10 hours each way. I would have saved 60 bucks if it could have been shipped t a local gun shop. but for the most part it was pretty painless. I did get to spend some time with family.

Buds, Aim Surplus, Palmetto State Armory come to mind quickly. I've found a few on this forum's classified, too.

Armslist has worked for me. You've just got to be EXTREMELY careful as it is loaded with frauds and scammers out to steal your money. Buy locally (face-to-face) and you should be fine. Buy from reputable distant shops and you should also be fine. Buy from distant individuals only after setting up a solid plan of action with the seller's transfer/shipping dealer. I have done all of the above and no one (knock on wood) has zinged me yet. :)

But it doesn't mean there haven't been those who tried. Beware! Beware! Beware!

I've bought off Gunbroker, Guns International, Gun Auction and Armslist.

Gunbroker seems the best vetted. But I don't buy from someone who has no history.

As said above, I'll only consider items from an FFL on Armslist.

I like the classifieds here, Gunbroker, and Gunboards. Just do not deal with new folks who have no history. It takes a small leap of faith, and common sense and gut feelings are your best friends.

Some guy has been trying to sell a 945-1 on Armslist that was listed on GB for twice the price from the legit seller.
First, the scammer was selling out of FL, then MN, now PA.
Apparently Armslist can’t stop the same ad reappearing every week, I flagged him twice.

Combat Armory(I think that they are just sellin gun parts now),
Southern Outdoor Super Store, Palmetto State Armory, Gun Broker( was very careful), G something Guns in Texas.
Never had a problem with any of them. When buying from Gun Broker I always had questions and got answers from the seller.

I like Guns International. Purchased and sold there a few times. Some pretty nice old Smiths show up there from time to time and are reasonably priced. I just found one from a dealer in TX there a few months ago.

If the price is a good deal you have to be quick tho because they will go in a heartbeat. Set it up to look at the new listings everyday. That's the only way you can nail one.
