Is it river cane?

Seems like IIRC that Crossbow brand defoliant works on broadleaf plants. It isn't cheap but might be worth a try.

Roundup will usually kill any plant except mosses and lichens. Did you mix it one and a half ounces to two oz. to the gallon of water?

And round up may take a week or more to produce results.

Works best for me if I spray on a hot dry afternoon. Plants respond to it like rain and soak it up.

Roundup won't kill nutgrass and others. 2-4-D is the cheapest broadleaf killer. Avail. at Tractor Supply.

A home mix that will kill just about anything growing is a mix of vinegar/salt and dish washing detergent. My wife uses it in her rock garden.

We call that Horsetail. I don't know how it got that name since it doesn't look anything like a horsetail. People use it in planters around here and I never heard of it being an aggressive spreader but a quick search shows various articles on getting rid of it. One said pulling it out by the root makes it worse but another suggested doing that. I would do a search and read several to find the best way. Chemicals appear to not work. Good luck!
