April 20-- We can now officially put to rest all comparisons of COVID-19 to influenza. The numbers are in. Coronavirus is killing more Americans than the flu and almost everything else. According to data compiled by the Washington Post, COVID-19 is now the second leading cause of death in America.

In some parts of the country, it's way ahead. In Louisiana and Washington, D.C., more people died of COVID-19 during the first week of April than any other cause. In New York, it's not even close: 5,226 died in that state from the virus that week compared to 870 who died of heart disease.

The entire article uses weekly stats in their comparisons to make a ridiculous and invalid point. This kind of fear mongering is totally unnecessary. When all is said and done the final death toll from Covid-19 will be significant but will still pale in comparison to the fatality rate of deaths in any major category we keep statistics on.

This is why I think and act the way I do.

I stopped drinking as I got older because it does not go well with some of my meds. However my intake of Xanax has increased. I have no money problems but the stress of it all is getting to me. I feel for the people that are out of work.

i don't care to read the stats on corona or anything else that is killing folks off . i will have to find something else to blame my drinking on . i know , global warming . naa that is easily explained by the fellow that runs the feed store I frequent . maybe the possibility of the government confiscating my firearms and ammo .no that wont work as I am no longer physically able to fight back well so if they insist OK but they will have to come get them . maybe , no , I drink because I like the buzz and am not sure if I could deal with reality 24/7 . yea that's it . never mind . Let's see.....
Out of work cause the govt says so......
Joined unemployment for the first time in my life.....
Got my first UE last week, let's see, I can pay my rent and Bill's on that.
Now, I'm told I'll be getting an additional payment from the govt.
What's not to like.
I got more money now than when I work, lol.
Plus, most days, I dont even know what day it is.

This is the best paid vacation I've ever had, sleep most of the day, drink all night, it's like highschool.
Except for the death toll,

Shortly after I moved into my current house a neighbor approached me while I was doing some yard work and explained that drinking beer was required while doing yard work in my new neighborhood. He then handed me a beer. I love my neighbors. I could not have chosen better people to live near.

We had not gotten together with any people since this whole mess started and had another couple come over to the house this weekend for a drink on the patio. We observed social distancing and no one ever went in the house except to use the bathroom and we just sat out on the porch and watched the ducks in pond and listen to birds sing and drank beer and Bahama Mammas. We laughed and ate beans and cheese Nachos and that was the most fun we've had since the pandemic started so yes, it's official, alcohol is the best medicine for Covid-19.
