I went because they advertised a K38 which if I remember correctly they called a combat target. It was a very nice K38 Combat Masterpiece. I'll put that in the right thread later. The next gun up was a 28-2 also of interest but father down my list. Standing in the back of the room I did not get a good look at it but could see it had target grips. Bidding stopped at what I thought was a low price and I made one bid and got it. When I picked it up it has 3Ts and a WO. Now I need some help with this being regular or sepecial order for 1973. Any information is appreciated and thanks for your20250609_164754sw4.jpg20250609_164648sw3.jpg time.20250609_164554 (1).jpg

More info and pictures required. As I understand it, the 28’s were designed to be an economy version of the 27, more affordable to police departments and the poorly paid cops of the time. I do not believe ( other can correct me) that the 28 was available with special order options like 3T RR or WO from the factory, but could easily be added by the owner after the fact?

Whether it's original or not, that is a fine looking Model 28. You might try to call or perhaps email S&W, they may be able to tell you in what configuration it left the factory based on the serial number.

By 1973 'Special Orders" for Model 28s were a rare thing indeed and were mostly limited to special configurations for police contracts. That being said, a little later, S&W began to sell stocks and hammers / triggers in blister packs hanging on wire point of purchase displays. My bet would be that your gun was 'upgraded' in this way....
