So, I was trolling Gunbroker last week looking at Colts as that is what I primarily collect. I came across a Nickel Det Spec 3" with the shrouded ejector rod. That is a pretty tough find in the Colt world. Anyway I saw that the seller was in my city and there were no bids at the moment. Talked via email and he said he would pull it off of GB and let me take a look. He said if I didn't buy it he would just re-list and wasn't in a gigantic hurry. Also told me to bring extra cash as he had a lot of Colt grips he wanted to sell as well.

So, we met up this morning at the local Bass Pro shop. He has a duffle bag with a huge gun rug and about half a dozen small zip lock type bags. He opens the rug and there is the Colt. Looked super nice but there was one spot where the nickel almost looked as if it were buckling up and there was a good scratch at that spot. I decided to pass on that gun although I still really want one. He whips out all the zip lock bags and has 4 sets of various wood Colt revolver grips all in brand new condition with the prices on them that he said he paid 8 years ago for them. Wanted to get his money back and so I took them all. 1 ea of Gen2 and Gen3 python grips, 1 set of Viper grips and 1 set of smooth shorter Det spec service grips. Also a set of Colt/Pach MKV rubber finger grips and a set of some other pach Det Spec grips. Anyway I notice a Smith box in the bottom of the duffle bag and mention I saw that. He asked if I like Smiths and I said yes, although I am somewhat ignorant about Smiths. He pulls out a NIB 19-3 2.5", with Target hammer and Trigger (I have no idea if they all come like that configuration or not). There is a small rub mark on the sideplate near the cylinder release but you have to be at the correct angle to see the mark. This is one of those guns where I was told its NIB and I believe it hasn't been fired since it left Smith. He gave me a price but being ignorant I asked if I could call a friend to get a value estimate. Spoke to the friend and its mine now. Not sure what I am going to do with this but its in my safe now.

Thanks Steve (Dirty Harry) for the help again with a Smith.

Well that's a nice snubby 19-3! Looks brand new to me, at least from the one pic.
BTW if that's the correct SN on the box my SCSW shows a manufacture date of 1973 I think.

Great post, but would be even better if you posted what you paid for the stuff like the Python grips and the Smith.
C'mon, yer leaving out the best part. :)

I can indulge you with that.

I paid $700 for the gun.
$235 ea for the python grips
$100 for the Viper grips
$75 for the smooth D-frame service grips
$10ea for the rubber grips (the Colt V-frame and the pach D-frame)

g27, that box shows the "TH" and "TT" sections with a check mark, which would indicate it left the factory with Target Hammer and Target Trigger. They did not all come that way.
Nice catch.

An immaculate looking 19-3 snubby is much sought after by many in this crowd. You scored big. All of us snubby fans are green with envy. Well, speaking for myself, I am, and I hope I stumble onto it's brother to complement my snubby 66.

I snagged this one just before Xmas last year for $600. Also a local deal. 66-1 and it has been fired but its super nice.

If you're truly looking for something to do with that 19-3, you could let me have a crack at it. I was born in 1973, and would love a birth year k-frame snub .357 to add to my modest collection!
