i have cronic kidney disease . the number that is used to measure kidney function was about 4.4-4.6 in 2013 . it was down in 2014 to 4.2 . now it comes in at 3.8 . we are not totally alarmed yet , but this is serious .
i will take a blood test for my family m d to check . probably have an ultra sound , and possibly have a kidney biopsy . would need to eventually go to a kidney specialist , and if i understood all correctly , some other blood work may need to be done. not sure but believe out of 5 or 6 levels , i am level 3 at the present. dialious was mentioned of course , as the last medical procedure. dont want to get to that ! was told to drink gobs of water.
have had problems with stones in the past , but there are no particular conditions with me to warrant why i have this worsening condition . my present medications were checked to be ok and no link to them doing any damage .
any one here have this problem ? i have overall good health and this was a little hard to swallow this info at the doctor today .
i know when the kidney machine is brought into play , its a matter of time , bout 4-6 years . not there yet . i asked if there was any way to reverse this downward trend . doc said lots of water and watch my sugar intake . it is somewhat high and has been for a few years . i take no diabetic meds at all.
ok..... that's it. if you are in the know about this or have it now , i'd like to hear your story .

I feel for you.
I just spent 2 days in the hospital and am at stage 4 of 5.
The edge of dialysis.

Go see the specialist!!!!!

Btw, keep an eye blood pressure. It's a big contributor to renal failure.

thanks for the info ....

hope to have more as the days go by .
just a note . i will be 68 in december . my blood pressure was 80/120 at the doctors office today.
i am hopin the extra water consumption will help . just dont know much at this stage.
has anyone ever witnessed the numbers go back UP ? ! and if so , what might this be contributed to ?

If you take any over the counter pain meds routinely, STOP now. NO Ibuprofen/Motrin or other NSAIDS. They are kidney killers. "Watch your sugar intake?" What does that mean? CUT OUT SWEETS and any other simple carbohydrates. Get that blood sugar down.

Excellent information from Mayo Clinic. Be sure to read all the pages.

Chronic kidney disease - Mayo Clinic

If you are on meds for high blood pressure, they may need to be changed. Limiting protein intake is important, there are other diet changes to do also. Get an appointment with a specialist ASAP.

Are both kidneys functioning at the same Level?

With all my ailments I feel for you all, as I realize that mine are not as bad as yours are, as yet.

Prayers sent for you all.

my thoughts .........

are first to thank all of you for the understanding and info.
i am having the blood taken either tommarrow or first of next week. have an ultra sound scheduled for 17th of this month . my md has already mentioned seeing a specialist , and possibly the biopsy procedure . THAT does not sound like any fun !
anybody had this done ?
i plan on cutting way back on soft drinks and sugars. maybe just have a soft drink( diet type ) with a pizza or a fast food meal on occasion . will sub with juices & water. the sugars ? well , i'm gonna try hard . cant say that i can COMPLETELY eliminate them , but a 60-70% reduction would hopefully help me a good deal !
oh .... the person who posted the mayo clinic stuff. that was some useful
info ! feel good most of the time . excercise regularly . my weight is very much in check . about 6 lbs. over my high school days weight.

at this point , just having this condition seems pretty much a downer. most of the info i have read seems to 4 sure mention the kidney machine & or a transplant . correct me if i am in error , the biggest hope seems to be getting the kidneys to hold their own or substantially slowing down the negative progress . i am hoping and praying for all of us to make some good improvements .
one little story . had a neighbor who had this condition a few years back. he had the machine and it kept him going for 9-10 years ! my understanding is that would be nearly double of how long one is suppose to have it do the job .
good wishes to all ...... will stay tuned for any more comments .

You need to research diet for kidney disease/failure NOW!
Salt/sodium is another no-no. Lots of water may also be a no-no, hard to believe the doctor told you to drink lots of water.
I'll include a few links to study

Kidney-Friendly Diet & Foods for CKD - American Kidney Fund

There are cookbooks specific for kidney disease.(I may have one of them) In case you are wondering about my interest in this, my husband passed away from kidney/renal failure in Dec. 2013. Long story, many other health issues, and failure to follow medical advice. Yes, I have been to this rodeo.
