Either a Centennial (DA only) or Bodyguard (shrouded hammer, SA/DA) .38 Special would work well. Probably a good idea to find to rent or try one of each and see which you get along with better. Be sure to use a pocket holster and keep everything else out of the pocket. Good luck in your decision.

I use a 642-1 for pocket carry.
I pocket carry a Colt Agent. Roughly the same size and weight as a J frame but is 6 shot vs 5. Frequently carry the same gun in a belt holster at about 5 o'clock.

I'm gonna get a 640 after the new year. I think it will be great. Mostly a 38 but can carry 357. Internal hammer. I'm not decided on a standard or pro series yet.
Snubs are sort of my thing. Have quite a few by Smith and Colt. Have to say, it's hard to beat the versatility and durability of the 442 / 642 lineup. Light enough but not too light. Reliable. Somewhat subdued appearance as compared to similar blued, nickel, or anodized snubs but this makes it easier to ignore the scrapes and marks for daily carry. If I had to let them all go except one...I'd keep one of my most frequently carried 442s.
Prefer .38+P, even in J-Frame snubs chambered for .357. The .357 is too much.

I often carry a .357 Model 640 in a Galco pocket holster. In one particular pair of Levi's it absolutely disappears. In some Carhartt's it's a little less so and a little less comfortable. Wear a good belt!

My 649 is in my pocket for 12 hour shifts every day.
I carry a 342 in a cheap uncle mikes pocket holster when I pocket carry(i usually IWB carry it in a DeSantis cozy partner), but I've got a pair of Bob Mika's pocket J frame holsters on the way that I can't wait to try out. I think the 340 and the 342 are two of the best pocket carry J frames out there.

I switched from a 640 to a 442 because the weight of the stainless kept dragging my jeans down. The 442 in a pocket holster seems ideal, even though it is a handful with standard .38's. I practice with light recoil ammo.
What holster do you use? I'd like to be able to carry my 327 more often, but I'm still looking for a good holster. I did find a Tagua 4 in 1 that works ok, but not ideal.

I pocket carry a 340PD every minute of the day...in front jeans pocket..Speedloader on belt, speed strip in offside front pocket. 357 gold dots or buffalo bore hardcast. If you get a AirLite and carry 357 be sure to check your choice of carry rounds for crimp jump. And be nice to the titanium when cleaning.
For my tastes there is nothing close in firepower and ease of carry. These Airlites in 357 require practice, and pain but are not range toys, I bought a second one just for range abuse and the other is just for the pocket now that it's been vetted.

I'm with the 340 PD folks. Only a little over 11 ounces empty...when loaded with .357 Magnum 135 gr Speer Gold Dot short barrel rounds and with its Galco horsehide pocket holster, right at 16 ounces. Melts into your front pants pocket, and because it is so on obtrusive, you are more likely to actually carry it. I have a lot of choices, and this is the one I am most likely to have at any given time.
There are lots of choices out there, but as noted above, the Centennial style revolver is snag free, and sealed against pocket lint in the internals.

I do carry a 360J. I also have a 640 and a 642 that I carry occasionally. Usually in a Mika pocket holster.
The 640 is the best shooter for me, because it's the heaviest. Then the 360J and finally the 642, it's the newest and has been shot the least.

I have a mod 36 and a mod 38.....
...but I think that the Ladysmith is a fine piece of work for a carry gun.
