What 357 or 38 S&W revolver would you carry for a pocket gun concealed?

I carry a 642-1 now, but I carried a Model 36 Chief's Special from the early 1980's through the mid 90's. It was even better when my old partner bobbed the hammer on it for me.

Great old gun and I kick myself for ever trading it.

Carry J Frame

I used to carry my "9640" which was a 1992 mfg 640 with a 940 cylinder I picked up from the S&W Performance Center, but then one fateful day I bought my daughter a very early 4 digit serial .38 LCR and I ended up having to buy her another one because I stole the original. I'm still carrying it 10 years later and it's getting a polished look to the frame.

I am now carrying my PC Shield .45 as for some reason I am much more accurate with it. I did put a Crimson Trace LG -485 on it thou
+ I like the extra rds.

My 637-2, on most neighborhood walks or store trips, either in a DeSantis pocket, or in my Nevada Gun Leather upside-down shoulder, or my vintage Bucheimer upside-down (no stretchy body straps - fits higher and tighter). Got to have a light jacket for the upside-downs. Cargo pocket for the DeSantis.

Like others have already nominated, my favorite...steel cylinder w/alloy frame, meaty grips...357 recoil is not nearly as punishing as my SC360. Use an OWB holster with untucked shirt and forget I'm carrying it. I quit tucking my shirts when I began carrying. Be wary of old guys in shorts and untucked shirts...

I carry a S&W 640 pro . I like the night sights that come with it.
I also installed Crimson Trace Laser grip on it.
Now I'm good in any lighting conditions

I have been a weight and hammerless nut. My favorite EDC is an old 342ti filled with Liberty ammo. My best EDC is Kel-Tek P32 filled with Cor-Bon Powerball. No fear firing 342 from inside a pocket. Favorite EDC holsters are Galco ankle but you better plan ahead to bring a gun to bear. Best EDC holsters are DeSantis pocket, they're very sticky and thin.

340 PD or or a nickel M37 vintage 1975. Both ride in Mika Pocket Holsters.

^+5! I've tried 7 or 8 pocket holsters and nothing compares to the Mika Pocket Holster. I had it made for for a 649 and it is perfect. Easy out and effortless reholstering (holster stays open in pocket without gun). Holster disappears in khaki trousers.

Expect to wait at least 4 or 5 months for delivery...

I'm with the 340 PD folks. Only a little over 11 ounces empty...when loaded with .357 Magnum 135 gr Speer Gold Dot short barrel rounds and with its Galco horsehide pocket holster, right at 16 ounces. Melts into your front pants pocket, and because it is so on obtrusive, you are more likely to actually carry it. I have a lot of choices, and this is the one I am most likely to have at any given time.

There are lots of choices out there, but as noted above, the Centennial style revolver is snag free, and sealed against pocket lint in the internals.

Best Regards, Les

I'm with Les on this one… Well, at least today. Traveling light with my 340 PD loaded with Speer GD 135 gr. in a DeSantis. I have a Sig P365 close have stuck with the 340 PD so far.

442

My wife and I both carry 442's. Mine wears old Magna grips that have been thinned on a belt sander(no printing even in Thomas Magnum shorts ;) . Both are stoked with Gold Dots. Lots of cool toys in the chest but the 442's get carried daily.

I'm gonna get a 640 after the new year. I think it will be great. Mostly a 38 but can carry 357. Internal hammer. I'm not decided on a standard or pro series yet.

Hi Bobby,
Got a 642-1 Performance Center awhile back and have no regrets. The smooth action is perfect & well worth the money.

My 637-2, on most neighborhood walks or store trips, either in a DeSantis pocket, or in my Nevada Gun Leather upside-down shoulder, or my vintage Bucheimer upside-down (no stretchy body straps - fits higher and tighter). Looks like you have it covered....

I think so. :) Got a "true" Mdl 60 coming to my LGS tomorrow courtesy of a friend. I'm sure it's as pretty as his pictures, and will probably replace the 637 under my arm in the future. (Unless it's been a safe queen all its life, then I may have to think about that...)

The steel-framed 5-shot Smith & Wesson revolvers are hard to beat. Make it a "hump-back" Bodyguard and it's just about perfect. I like this Model 649 .38 Special for use when I can't contrive to carry something larger. I'll tote it stoked with +P 158 grain lead semi-wadcutters.

I have the S/W 637 , but to be honest, I usually carry the Ruger LCP ,or the Ruger LC380. I'm a .38 spc fan but do like my .380's for everyday carry.

I was one of those who voted for the 340 PD earlier in the thread, but wanted to post a photo of it in a Pocket Concealment Systems holster. This is a little-known but very competent leather shop in Baltimore that does a great job:

this holster looks good!
Is it fully hambidextrous and stay in the pocket when the gun is draw?

I've carried my 3" S&W 60-4 since 1991. And it is quite accurate with semi-wadcutters.

I just have to echo the others that suggest whatever small revolver you like. I personally like the Centennial style J-frames. A 442, 642, M&P340 or a 340PD. THe 340PD is my choice, simply because it is so light and easy to carry. Well, that, plus the fact I am a recoil junkie...Don't leave home without it.

Either a Centennial (DA only) or Bodyguard (shrouded hammer, SA/DA) .38 Special would work well. Probably a good idea to find to rent or try one of each and see which you get along with better. Be sure to use a pocket holster and keep everything else out of the pocket. Good luck in your decision.

I carried a Ruger LCR in 38 until I got my shield. It is hammerless and I used a pocket holster from DeSantis and another from sticky. I think either will do you well.

Put 100 rounds through my 637-2 today at the indoor range. Broke it in well. No gun problems at all. Very happy - using Winchester 110gr Silvertip, shot a couple of nearly dead-center aim 1-2" groups at 5 yards - a reasonable self defense distance. A model 60 and its progeny are perfect SD guns - want to shoot 25 yards? - get an 8" Smith. Have to shoot from the bedroom? Get a 60.

I'm between à model 40 And a 49 in my pocket.
Actually use a Desantis superfly but I.m waiting for a Milt sparks pocket holster.
Will probably take another pocket a Delfatti if I can order it, or a pocket concealment system
