Time for a winter food thread!

Tonight, it's venison stew for us. I took the picture just before the lid went on. You're looking at seared meat (hard to not eat it all right then), carrots, potato, onion, celery, maybe a cup and a half of homemade chicken stock and some seasoning all nicely loaded in a crock pot. It cooks for about 4-5 hours on low, frozen peas go in near the end. Served with a salad, crusty bread and some beer.

If you have any favorites you'd care to share, I'm taking notes! Photos are always appreciated. :)

Yesterday I decided it was time to finish up the last of the ham in the fridge. My old favorite recipe is to dice up the ham and a fair number of potatoes and throw them in the crock pot. Add a can of cream of mushroom soup, a small can of mushroom pieces, a half cup of milk along with a couple of good sized chunks of your favorite cheese diced up. I choose to add a little bit of cayenne and a goodly amount of fresh cracked black pepper (no salt is needed - the ham is plenty salty.)

Let it sit on low all day while you're at work. When you are ready to eat, make a salad and grab a chunk of fresh bread with jam and comfort food doesn't get much better!

I remember Mom making this dish when I was in grade school - I have to make it a couple of times a year.

Looks pretty good Chad...

We do most of our meals on a old wood Cookstove in the Winter months. Jules is a 4th generation farm girl. Everything you described could be better by one thing only ~ old fashioned sweet Yeast Rolls...hot off the oven....:)

Some folks like 'em with peanut butter and cold Milk...
