Wow, either of those temps make me shiver. It was 75 here around New Iberia, LA today for the high. Went shopping for Christmas food today in short sleeves.

Coldest temp I ever saw in Maryland I was working and we were on fire and other calls all night. I had to change crews every hour or two...It was 11 below zero brutal on a fire truck...a few years ago we had 10 days in a row it didn't get that warm...41 below at home average of 3 thermometers one night All that said...the average temps between the Eastern Shore of Maryland and north east of Cody 45 miles is only about 1 or 2 degrees different. But Not much humidity here. Under 10% in summer...Md was an average of about 80% all year. It was 110 here one day...humidity at 2%...still hot! Two bit cowboy lives at rarified altitudes. Hey Bob...how much wood does it take you for all winter...BTW winter for him is almost September to June. LOL yes I'm joking mostly

In the weather department there is no longer anything typical!-
Last yr on Christmas we had 6-9’ of snow depending on exactly where you were. Many people lost their lives. This year they are calling for low 50s and light rain.

I usually put up six cords to ensure I don't run out.
Last year that wasn't enough. Coldest winter I've seen in 17 on this mountain. I ran out in April and scrounged out of the snow-covered forest through May. Not fun.
I've tried to ensure I won't repeat that adventure this year.

The skeptics are always out in plenty.
The difference you perceive is based on the camera's eye -- about a foot higher this year.
That thermometer has been in that location on that post for more than a decade.
Another conspiracy theory! 
I was a member of a rural vol. fire dept. We had a call one time at 10 below. 3 dept. responded. The dept. that was the farthest from the fire was froze up when it arrived.
We didn't get wet or muddy. Larry
Last year was certainly different in the mountains . Believe it or not I've only burned 3 small chunks of wood this year...running the furnace and I have burned 4 bags of pellets in my reloading/gun room. Monday going to give my wife the gift of woodstove heat again...stacking a cord on the porch today. After she gets done doing that and splitting the rest of the wood she won't need any heat till then,,,Sounds good anyway. I got her a new pair of boots...pair of socks too. I'm gonna stoke up the far in the doghouse tonight.
Ain't it fun working cold weather??We learned one night when it was only zero there was nuff cold wind blowing through our engine room the pump on our engine froze up. So cold weather we kept the pump dry...At O dark 30 Our crash trucks went on an aircraft coming in with a fire on board. All the passengers on the plane bout froze to death...it was a flight from the Bahamas...blowin 30 and zero when they popped the slides on the doors...they were in shorts and T shirts...One of my better nights! Got to have a local TV reporter locked up....they made me turn him loose a couple hours later.
Dsang it..just looked outside...it's snowing!
