I open this thread in the hope's that both the expertise and ideas from many members will comment on any and all of the different areas that I hope to cover. I know that what follows could have different parts posted in several different categories and also that this post could become quite long. Even though there are many parts, it's my desire to keep all the different comments, information and suggestions in one location and hope this is not objected to by other members.

First I would like to say, I became a member about 3/4 months ago and believe my first comment/post was in the "What I wish S&W would make" and dealt with Re-introducing the Triple Lock Revolver, either in the "classic model line" or possible as a new, more modern model. Once I made my posting and thinking about it, I decided to take the next step and pursue it further. This has led me to start this thread and convey what and where I find myself now.

Just a little history, I first started corresponding with S&W around 1958/1960 time frame as a teenager and made a couple of suggestions to Mr. Hellstom, the President of S&W at the time. I'm sorry to say that my suggestions were rejected at that time, BUT, were incorporated
later, so there is hope. I can speak first hand at how frustrating it can be in dealing with S&W. Later, I served in the USMC, 1962/1966 and during my service, I did participate in service Rifle and Pistol competition but did not continue doing so after leaving the service due to lack of time and money. Later, when I had more time and money, I failed to take it back up due to physical disabilities but as is so often stated in the S&W forums, I bleed S&W, through and through. With that out of the way, here's my story.

I contacted S&W several week's ago with my first correspondence to them in several years, I made two specific suggestion's which dealt with a specific material and a specific revised design change. I mention these now and also state, it was requested by S&W that since I was being given information of some past endeavors' on their part that dealt with those issues, that specific information remain confidential at the present time and not be placed on the internet in any form due to the ease in which miss-information, rumor, etc. can get started. I can state that we are still communicating about the subject matter and I will provide additional information later on concerning the two items, but that is all I can say now.

About a week later I sent an addition email with specific specifications for a proposed new model and the following is the email in a paraphrased re-construction.

Call the New Model, "NEW CENTURY Quad Lock" and make it available in both a service and target line and both in a "N" and "L" frame.

The common features for this New Model Line:

"Service Model" in Both "N" and "L" Frame
1) Omitted for now, item in my 1st email to S&W
*2) Omitted for now, item in my 1st email to S&W, hence the Quad Lock name.
3) Re-introduce the original "Triple Lock" design, hence, the Quad Lock name.
4) Multiple "pencil", I prefer "contoured" barrel lengths. 4",5" and 6", (I am referring to the barrel configuration that is on the Model 27)
5) Round butt w/smooth finger groove grips service grips with S.S. or silver plated S&W insignia insert.
6) Fixed "removable" rear sight assembly similar to the extreme duty fixed sight by "Cylinder and Slide".
7) Cylinder, Fluted and recessed cartridge head and/or moon clips.

"Target Model" In Both "N" and "L" Frame
W/ Additional features
1) Adjustable rear Target sight paired with multiple optional Front Sight blade types.
2) Checkered Top Strap and Barrel Rib.
3) Checkered or at a minimum, Grooved Grip Backstrap.
4) Checkered finger grooved target grips, available in both a Square or Round Butt grip configuration and with Gold Plated S&W
insignia insert.
5) Optional Triggers and Hammers, such as a curled finger surface Trigger and a Side Grooved Hunch Back Hammer.
6) Registration Letter, the same as was done with the original Model 27.

The "N" frame available in 44Mag/44Spl., 41Mag, 10mm/40S&W, and 357Mag/38Spl.
The "L" frame available in 40S&W and 357Mag.

I have been told that the above suggestions are being reviewed and I expect to hear comments, etc. later this week. When I hear more, I will post as I will on any future S&W comments.

In general, I look forward to all comments, both positive and negative with regards to the above from any and all Forum members.

I also am posting these specific questions to any Forum members who can provide additional information which would allow me to proceed assuming I receive a negative response from S&W.

1) To any Forum members who own a Triple Lock Revolver, (I don't own one), can you determine by measuring the barrel of a
triple lock, what the C to C dimensions are from center of bore to center of ejector rod and also the C to C from the top
ejector rod to the secondary triple lock rod and the dimension of center of top ejector rod to bottom of ejector housing. I would
need these to determine whether a current model 27 half lug barrel would permit modification for conversion to the triple lock
feature and if a Forum member has both a triple lock and a model 27, how do they compare?
2) Assuming they are the same?? I would then need (4) four, 5" Stainless Steel Model 27 barrels. Does anyone know where these might
be located or a contact name.

I presently own (2) new pre lock Model 610's with factory 5" barrels which were full lug barrels before I had them reworked to half lug in Sept. of 1994 and also at the same time I had (2) factory 357 mag. S.S 686's converted to 40 Cal. S&W and 5" model 610 barrels installed and again modified with half lugs. It is my intention, to take these (2) model 610's and (2) converted Model 686's and turn them into a "N" and "L" frame "Service" Quad Lock's and also a "N" and "L" frame into "Target" Quad Lock's.

Since the most difficult work in my conversion to a triple lock is having a correct barrel and having the necessary dimensions able to house the secondary bolt, this becomes my first and foremost obstacle to overcome. "HELP WANTED". The other change, my design modification as mentioned in my earlier email to S&W then would justify the Quad Lock name and is the next most complex task, only due to the necessity to machine two new parts. All other work is much easier and much cheaper and/or has already been accomplished for all (4) revolvers.

I'll post this for now and will add addition questions or comments in a day or so.

Thanks ahead of time to any Forum Members who want to jump in.

I'm a little mistified as to what your goal is from all of the above. You live in Henderson, NV, just a short distance from the Sands Convention Center in Las vegas, so can I assume that you were in attendance at the last January SHOT Show there? If so, you must have talked to all the brass and decision makers at S&W, as they were there in force, especially the Performance Center staffers who could provide all the answers to the above queries you post. Join the S&W Collectors Assn. and come to the annual meeting in Tucson in July. Experts there can tell you all you will ever need to know about S&W and S&W guns. You can measure C to C's to your hearts content! And perhaps buy the parts you want. Good luck, Ed #15

Aren't there a number of gunsmiths providing a "third" spring loaded lock on the crane? Sounds like you are trying to "reinvent the wheel". Your custom guns would no doubt be interesting to the members here. The idea of a new New Century with the hammer lock and MIM parts inspires no confidence or interest for me. YMMV!

Dave

Just a guess, but my guess is that if S&W made a "Fourple Lock" these days, the fourth lock would be the somewhat controversial keyed internal lock.

Talk about anathema!
