Yesterday, my new PC 1911 SKU 170343 arrived at the gun store. It has beautiful blue/black grips that Smith says are G10 Wood. What is G10 Wood...man made ? I would love to get another set of the Blue/Black G10 for my S&W 1911, but I cant find them on the S&W store.

Have not even made the PC 1911 go bang yet, heavy rain all day.

I think they mean G10 or Wood. Those are two entirely different materials.

G10 is a high pressure glass/epoxy laminate. Wood is well,.. wood  unless you're looking at some of the high pressure epoxy/wood laminates... like "Dymondwood" for instance, even so that stuff is still wood... mostly.

I don't know who makes those grips for S&W but you might try VZgrips or Raasco. I have grip panels from both those outfits and they both make top shelf stuff.

Cheers

G-10

Hello,
photos help tell the story, they could be G-10 simulated wood grain. They really do look nice. These here are VZ Grips. Check out the detail on the heads of the screws.

You think those stock grip panels are beautiful? I'll grant that they are different but have to stop just short of "beautiful." Now, here's what I consider attractive on that gun.

I guess I'm just an olde pharte who doesn't care for modern materials over nicely figured wood. Those stock panels, by the way, are quite a bit heavier than any wood ones I have so they are made from something other than "just wood."

I called S&W Customer Service today. The G10 Grips used on the 1911 Performance Center guns are not available for purchase. They suggest I contact VZ Grips who supplies S&W with the G10 grips for the PC Guns. Customer Service said that the S&W 'internal' part number for the Black/Blue G10 grip used on the 1911 SKU 170343 gun is 38422.

I called VZ, they had no idea which grips S&W buys ?? They asked me to send a picture, which I did. VZ says they dont make that grip ?

My Translation on above: The G10 Grips used on the PC 1911's are proprietary and not available from any source.

VZ did say they do make other Black/Blue G10 grips
