What are some of the 21st Century instant classics?

Lock or no lock, that .357 revolver looks like a gem. I have a lock on one of my guns; a 638-3. I don't use it, but it doesn't bother me at all..

When I think of a "classic" S&W revolver from the 21st century, I think of guns that are unique to today rather than modern evolutions of traditional models. I think of guns that have some kind of new "twist" on previous models. Examples might be the 329PD and some of the other scandium & titanium guns because of their use of exotic materials. Or maybe the M69 because it's a compact .44 mag on an L frame.

But I'm really thinking along the same lines as the OP. I like the various 629 PC guns a lot. My favorite 21st century S&W revolver has to be the 629 PC 8-shot 5". Yeah, it came with the damn lock, which I agree detracts from its "classic" credentials, but I removed and plugged it. Like the OP, I replaced the sights with LPA. I replaced the thin factory stocks with some zebrawood combats. I also replaced the trigger with a TK Custom because I preferred the shape and the polished face. It's a smooth, refined, accurate gun that's a pleasure to shoot!

Agree totally that the X-Frame guns are modern classics too! Those were unthinkable back in the days when Dirty Harry proclaimed the .44 magnum was "the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off."

I made a Zebrawood Bass guitar and Telecaster guitar, for two bandmates, back in the late '70s. Good players but, had they taken up my offer to learn the trade, they'd still be in the music business.

I've always been a fan of zebrawood! I love its high contrast and color!

The Smith & Wesson model 29–7 was made in the year 2000 and are extremely rare. It is the same frame as the Model 629-5 pre-lock guns, It was made as a series for Lew Horton in which 40 were produced, As it stands right now there are 2 on the serial number found list of the Lew Hortons, There were a few overrun guns produced with blue cylinders, of which one serial number is known. (3 total)
Currently the fabled and highly sought after model 29-1 of which there are 73 known I believe on the found serial number list. The last time I knew I had # 73 the last one found, so actually as it stands now the Model 29-7 is the rarest of all the pre-lock Model 29's, To be clear I am not saying that the Model 29-7 will Ever be is desirable as the Model 29-1, but it will be collectible and is a very unusual Smith and Wesson.
I think instant classic may be the wrong term, but they will be collectible. We as human beings tend to collect what we grew up with.

Nobody's calling it a classic, so there's that too.
But one thing's for certain, the current Hemi's ain't just a marketing term either.
